Not surprising. After all, Cubs/Cardinals is the friendliest rivalry in all of sports history.
I haven't chased a Brock RC yet as I was mostly trying to get his Cardinals cards first. Really, I started with trying to get all of his Topps cards from the 70's. I lucked into a '69 card, so I added that year to the list. As of right now, I have 10 of his 20 Topps cards from 1969-79. I traded for every single one of them. I've also traded for a couple of upgrades and then traded the lower condition card. I only have 2 Gibson vintage cards so far (Topps '69 and '74). My oldest Musial card is an '83 Donruss card. I'd love to get a Musial from the 50's, but I'm happy with my 2 best Musial items that are not cards. #1 is an AU'd 8x10 photo in a 12x15 plaque and #2 is a 2003 Upper Deck Marble Bust.

Huh, spaz, looks like our baseball tastes are similar. Not to gloat, just stating facts, but: getting a 1963 Musial a couple years ago was very big to me; buying the Brock rookie about 20 years ago was my biggest baseball card expenditure at the time; and I'm always working toward finishing my Topps Gibson collection, though it's not a specific goal each year.
Good luck with it all.
Oh, and BUMP.

I haven't really set any goals for 2018 yet. Mine would mostly be to keep doing what I'm doing. I think my incomplete-set list is down to only 4 sets now (two MLB, 1 NFL, 1 NASCAR), so I'd like to complete those.
Here are the big dreams:
* I'd love to get to 1,500 Jimmie Johnson cards (or 20 AUs and ten 1/1's).
* Get any vintage Stan Musial card.
* Complete my Lou Brock vintage list, including a RC.
* Get more Bob Gibson vintage cards.
In football, I'd love to add an AU card each of Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly.

If I don't hit 250,000 points this year on here, that will roll over into 2018 and will be pretty easy... probably achievable in January. But I fully expect to hit it before Christmas, let alone 2018. My actual goal is still going to be revealed on January 1st.
I only have one for next year. I've been planning for it since 2015. It's kind of a big deal to me. The Database has already played a part in the project, without knowing it...yet...all will be revealed soon!
I don't own enough cards missing scans to get much past 250,000. If/when I get sorting in my storage unit and find all the empty boxes and packs I've been saving since the 1990s that will help my points total significantly. If they survived. Of course I plan to keep collecting so there will always be new additions to work on.
-------------------------------
VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. My 2018 goals are more or less the usual. Get more categorized, work on sets. But. I want to achieve one of 2 things. Either get a hobby box or a baseball card crate for one month just so I can get a few hobby packs. I've watched a few videos, very intrigued.

I still can't believe this forum came out a month ago with over 1-1/2 months left in the year. I'm probably wrapped up for the year, so here goes:
Top Priorities (most likely)
2018 Topps Base + Update Set
1970 Topps Poster Inserts (-1 poster)
1968 Topps Set (-1 card)
1962 Topps Set (-2 cards)
Second Priorities (good chance)
1971 Topps Scratch-off Inserts (-12 cards)
1967 Topps Set (-22 cards)
1966 Topps Set (-27 cards)
1960 Topps Set (-9 cards)
Third-Tier Goals (possibility)
2011 Topps Update M.Trout RC
1973 Topps Wrappers (-pitcher, catcher)
1966/1967/1968 Topps Wrappers
1951 Topps Set (-6 cards)

Spaz: Yeah, I always kinda liked the Cardinals. Maybe it's because they really weren't very good when I became a fan circa 1972, not really rivals so much as misery loving company. And I loved Brock and Gibson. That's some nice Musial memorabilia you've got there.
RTD: I agree. That's why I immediately suggested that this thread be shelved for a month. It took a sad turn for awhile, but now I thought it safe and appropriate to revive. I hope you hit those goals. And I respect your consistency in not referring to 1951 Topps as two separate sets...Good luck with those goals.

My goals:
A) increase my Buckeye collection to over 4,000 different cards (currently just over 3,000)
B) log my favorite team / player cards (Cardinals, Bluejackets, Chiefs, Celtics, Crew, Han Solo, Payne Stewart, handful of others)
C) reduce my excess by 50% or more through trades, sales, and donations... I probably have over 70,000 cards currently (more than most, not as much as some I know)

I'll weigh in this seeing that today is my one year anniversary on this site. Back story, 2017 was my reintroduction into the hobby after leaving it in 2001 and seeling EVERYTHING (though I did buy a few packs here and there through the intervening years; can't get it out of your blood completely). Left because of a woman that I didn't marry. 2017 saw the end of my marriage, a new job and move from FL to CT and so on (cue violin). During this year I started really getting back into the hobby with getting the"easy" stuff outta the way (yes, late '80s/early '90s). Late this year I started trying to contribute more to this site. Now that my old house is sold and I don't have to carry that extra burden I can truly move forward with my collection.
2018 Goals:
1. Finish my Topps run of sets back to 1974 and to current so about 15 sets. Thank goodness for factory sets on sale/LCS discount...
2. Finish Donruss/Fleer back to '81 until the end of their runs (and no Panini years!)
3. Contribute more to the site. Shout out to cnagle and vroomed for the guidance they have provided me
4. Find more great traders. Have met plenty here that have been so generous and flexible. BTW wackydog, I got your request, working it, you said Mets right
5. Believe this or not, help my LCS out. Found one near my new home in the spring. Recently helped him move his shop to a better location and trying to help him expand sales and platforms; haven't asked for a penny in return.

My twin brother and I (we sort of share a collection for the most part) have a list of rookie cards from the Big 4 sports leagues in North America. That will likely be my focus this year like it was last year.
The list doesn't have anything in terms of pre-70s cards. They are mostly of guys we grew up watching, so 80s and 90s rookies mainly., plus current players we like. I've done decently in finding hockey ones at fair prices, so I would like to shift focus towards some modern football stars. It's a bit embarrasing to admit, but I don't have a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning rookie. Then again, I wasted lots of money in my early collecting years (ages 8 through 14 before a lengthy hiatus) investing in junk wax hockey boxes. It was quantity over quality back then.

Thanks Vytas! I've had those two Musial items for several years now. I've had the Musial AU for over a decade and I just got lucky to have the money at the right time when it showed up. I couldn't pass on it and am still glad I didn't. I basically got the bust by trading my 2001 Topps Pujols RC for it. The total trade was over $200 in value on each side, but the bust and Pujols RC were the most valuable single items on each side. That trade also got me my first ever 1/1 card! Unfortunately, it was a printing plate of a Carolina Panthers draftee that never panned out. He was on the team for several years, but never really a starter. It was still my first 1/1 card though AND I have an AU card that was made from the plate. I was kinda regretting trading the Pujols RC until he bolted for LAA. Now I just don't care if I add it back to my collection.
My fandom started in the 80's when both teams were pretty good and I was a little kid. I was too young to remember the Cardinals winning the '82 WS (4 years old then) and bummed out by them losing in 1985 and 87. You can imagine how happy I was when they finally made it back to the WS in 2004 and then won it in 2006 (and again in 2011). I'm talking to a Cubs fan here, so you know how special it is for your team to even make it to the post-season. I was so happy for Cubs fans when the team finally broke that Championship drought! I was rooting for the Cubs this postseason b/c I wanted to see a Cubs/Indians rematch in the WS. But the Astros/Dodgers series was one of the best I've seen in a very long time!
I've always kinda liked the Cubs too. It's hard to not like both teams when they face each other so often every year and have always been in the same division. It's a big reason why I have a Ryno collection and was happy to be at the HOF about a month after his induction. I don't collect other Cubs (unless they came from or went to the Cards at some point), but I go with what I know. I know a lot of the past Cubs players, but I don't collect them b/c I didn't see them play. I only collect Brock b/c I know what he meant to the Cardinals and the stats he put up for them and the Cubs. To finish this off, my all-time favorite player (and the reason I started collecting cards) is Ozzie Smith, but I don't collect other San Diego Padres JUST b/c Ozzie played there for a few seasons. Actually, that works the same as Cubs players b/c I do collect Tony Gwynn! No other Padres though.
