Last night's episode of the X-Files was about what is known as the Mandela Effect. In case you don't know what it is, here is a primer:

Anyway, it got me thinking about sports cards (or other hobby-related things) that might not be remembered correctly. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but am interested in the topic as a post on my blog. Is there anything you've experienced that might be of some help?

I seems to remember Honus Wagner's face looking a little different...

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I grew up and lived outside of Lawrence, Kansas until January of 1986. I distinctly remember watching the Kansas City Royals win the 1985 World Series. I moved to St. Louis in January of '86 and was immediately surrounded by tens of thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of people who still, 32 years later, swear that the Cardinals won that World Series.
Is that what you're looking for?

I swear to this day that Ovechkin changed his last name and regardless what people say I have always had that hmmmmm attitude, and thats just off the top of my head. I always spelled it Ovetchkin. I am sure I'll think of some others, but that was an interesting read, being a science based person I love the articles saying theorys of all sorts. DO I believe them all no, but still like to read them.
Oh yes the other biggie I have always argued about is Rebok, I swear it was Rebok before they used the Rbk for a while, now it is Reebok, I never remember it as Reebok EVER and everyone says iy was. Makes me wonder if there are others ...... I suddenly hear X-Files music people .......................................

I saw an online thing once where people were remembering it was “Fleet” instead of “Fleer”. It was on Reddit or something. If you do a search, you can find it.

AlwaysOvechkin and Fleer, never saw it any other way. Yes, Mandela didnt die, but I follow current affairs
Only one thing bothers me and it is card related. The number of cards in a 1950s Topps nickel pack. Some say 5, some 6. Now this calls for a definitive answer. This is important! Forget everything else and get this done. Unfortunately I only have empty boxes from those years and all they say is "24 ct".

Thanks. Yes, but in a more hobby-related way. People remembering cards being in a certain set that they weren't; remembering packs costing 10 cents when in fact they were 30 cents retail; Remembering opening products that were never released (Pinnacle product that was never released due to bankruptcy, etc.)

Honestly, I have to say I am so sick of hearing about the Mandela Effect. I have had people telling me it is more likely that we slipped into some sort of parallel universe where everything is the same except for the spellings of oddly named things than it being that people collectively suck at remembering things and that there are deficiencies in human recollection.
The issue is that some people find it amusing and joke about it, but most people who have brought it up to me actually believe this alternate universe stuff is real- based soley on misinterpretations of brand names and songs.
I would like to point out that the Mandela Effect is real- in the sense that large groups of people can misremember odd things the same way because of how our brains are wired to everything else around us. But to subscribe to this alternate universe theory based soley on this "evidence" is just silly, and it hurts my head anytime that type of stupidity get continuously presented to me.
But a conversation relating to how everyone may have admittedly misremembered something, that i can find interesting.
