If you don't go to the Main page for the Forums, you may have missed this Forum Notice.
I wanted to make sure everyone saw this:

Thanks. I won't make a judgement here but I will say the thought crossed my mind. I will only say that I think it is still great that many members were willing to step up and be generous when they saw a need.

I dropped off about 500 dupes (many multiple) to a relative of this member here in Georgetown. I'm not feeling "out" of any kind as my intention was to give these away to start with, but my first inclination was to drop them in the middle of the school I teach at and let the kids have at 'er. If this is true then I am really, really, disappointed, not for what I am out but for the bit of joy I could have given to the kids at my school.

I chose to not participate in this when it came up, and I told a member my reason was skepticism about the tragedy. This doesn't surprise me, not one bit. I do appreciate the diligence of those members that conducted the research.

As far as I know, that sort of notification is unprecendented on this site, but not in the hobby.
One guy on one of the card forums I am in on Facebook told the story of how his son had cancer and would be cheered up by Shawn Kemp cards...one of the admins of the group did a little digging and the guy eventually fessed up to the fact that not only did his son not have cancer...he didn't even have a son at all. Then he got banned...
I would like to hear what Jeff (Shaw Racing) has to say about this. I didn't send anything because 1 I'm too discombobulated to get anything together enough to mail and 2 I couldn't afford the shipping to Canada at that time. I'd also like to know how it was determined that this may not be true. I guess I should have read the comments when I saw it coming up in the Forum again but hadn't read beyond the first page...and it seems to be deleted now.
Most of us in this group like to give cards to our friends. The Pay it Forward thread is all the proof anyone could need of that. Being dishonest or disingenious is not needed to get cards for free...just being a regular here and talking about what you collect is enough to do it.
While I don't have a lot of info on this story I have to think it must be pretty credible for Admin to take this step.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. If this is true. It is sad that someone would stoop low enough just to get free cards. I for one didn't send any because of the shipping cost and the fact that I dont have alot of tradeable cards. Just goes to show you how dishonest some people can be if said story is false. I would like to hear Jeff's side of the story before passing judgement

I spent $48.00 on shipping to Canada and sent some pretty decent dupes to an autistic kid that might not even exist. If it's true, this guy is a real tool and should be banned from the site. Please keep us posted on any new information in regards to this situation. I noticed the original forum post is no longer available for viewing.

I sent about 100 cards or so as well. Included in those was a copy of a Raghib "Rocket" Ismael card that states on the back TORONTO ARGONAUTS 24 MILLION DOLLAR ROCKET. Early July a post on the identification forum (bumped from mystery) states:
I have recently picked up this card and cant find it on here and don't know Year, Make ? If anyone can help please. Thanks Jeff
This was the same card included in my package sent for JR. I found this odd. Hopefully not the exact copy but certainly a weird coincidence. The cards were in boxes for years and I don't miss them but I was hoping that they were for a good cause. He does have an impeccable trade feedback history. So, I guess I'm not sure what to think or how to feel.
