Are trolls a big problem on here? I just clicked noticed that someone had entered a price for the 1977-78 Foodtown Kentucky Dwayne Casey of $500. They joined the site 1/1/16 so I would guess that they are just being trolls.

That and my $400 1992-93 Topps Archives Gold Scottie Pippen are my two most valuable cards on here!

I emailed the admin and asked if they could delete them. Is there a troll protocol when you think you've found one?

I think pricing should be eliminated. It is so arbitrary and serves little useful purpose. Prices can fluctuate wildly and are never updated in a regular fashion. Prices could also be misused by trolls. Put a high price on something, tell someone to come to this site and see what it's worth and get suckered it. Eliminate it or put a great big asterisk next to any pricing.

I wouldn't say they're trolls necessarily, but the prices are likely an asking price. I, too, don't take any stock in the prices, although I enter prices from the book or auctions, but it doesn't make them actual prices.

I was wondering about prices. I personally kind of like them, because it gives you some sort of guage. But, I agree, they should not be taken to seriously. I wonder if there are any solutions or a better way of handling prices.

I rarely enter prices but I did today. I recently sold an Yzerman OPC RC for $11. Before I entered my price into the DB, the median price (not average, remember) was $80. My entry lowered the median to $65. But top price of $100 was entered 4 years ago and is listed as a "Book Price", not an actual sale. Just an example as to how skewed thing can get.

I agree with all of your comments on pricing on here but I'm talking more about entering completely false information into something called a database, just to have "fun."

I've had one of those (Yzerman OPC RC) on ebay (on & off) and it won't sell. Of course, I want to get more than $11 for it.

I have my settings so prices don't even show up. Anybody with a membership could report any price for any card. I notice the member in question has added ZERO cards to their collection. They have contributed nothing else to the site except prices, from what I can tell. They might be doing exactly what NJDevils described. Same for the person who entered the Pippen price, although that was a year ago.
Perhaps there should be a rule about who can enter prices. Based on site points, or having cards in their collection, or membership time passed, or at least show that they are using the site for something other than entering prices.
By the way, I searched the internet and don't see where anybody is selling this particular Casey card online right now. One person has several of the other Foodtown cards, but marked <$10 each, so that person seems legit.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I just see pricing as a guide. The pricing can help give you an idea of the value but I wouldn't take it too seriously.

I like the pricing as a guide and I've viewed all printed 'book' pricing as a guide anyways. It is always what you are willing to pay for it and/or what someone else is willing to but it for. eBay is a great took for getting pricing, but there are enough editors here to outrun the occassional trolls. Trolls exist everywhere, even on Wikipedia - ask any Scientologist:) I like the idea of not being able to add a price until you have enough points or time and one should have a collection posted here before they are able to affect the pricing that everyone else sees. Mistakes do happen and corrections have been and will be made. The more aggregious, usually the faster they are corrected. Thank you to all who have made corrections to my mistakes!
Just my 2.5 cents,
Dan
