This is definitely off topic, but I guess that’s why there is an off topic forum section.
For whatever reason, I am sensitive to bass and low frequency sounds. Where I live I am just assaulted by this all day. Neighbors stereo systems in their homes and cars, loud rumbling cars and trucks, occasional helicopters overhead, and sometimes I literally have no clue. As I’m typing this right now there is some mysterious growling and rumbling happening outside my window.
I one day wish to be able to be in my house and actually experience silence. I like living in a large city for the convenience of everything. I feel like I always need to have a close Target in every cardinal direction. But someday I might want to move and actually enjoy some auditory peace.
Do any members here live in any quiet places that I may someday enjoy in the future? I have some anxiety and OCD issues that unfortunately have passed down to me in my family, and these sounds really drive me crazy sometimes. My wife thinks I’m crazy sometimes, half the time she can’t even hear what I’m telling her about.

Sounds like that would likely be a problem nearly anywhere. Even out in the country where I live, tractors and other farm equipment make low rumbling sounds and they move slow. I also have the occassional helicopter fly overhead. Then there are the hunters and those that target practice nearly year-round. The guns are what drive my dog crazy the most. Winter is usually very quiet though.
I'd think your best spots would be very close to National or State Forests. We have many of those here in NC. Just make sure that any specific forest (in any state) doesn't have a history of wildfires b/c the helicopters would be constant when one happens.

May be a good idea to take day trips or vacations to different places to see if some may be quieter or not

I live alone, in a city of 8,000, in east central Illinois. Very quiet here. I did hear a motorcycle about an hour ago. There are some train whistles now that the new Decatur & Eastern Illinois RR is based here. But as I type this, I hear nothing but absolute silence. It's incredible. I work with some loud women. When I go home, many nights I don't even turn the tv on, just to enjoy the quiet.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

It SHOULD be quiet there at night. It's quiet here at night too. About the only things that disrupt the peace here after dark are the sirens of occasional emergency vehicles.
I didn't mention anything before about my actual location. I am about a dozen miles each in almost any direction from downtown of a major city, a smaller city, a big town and 9 miles from a small town. I don't hear the noise from any of them at any time, but it's a short 15-20 minute drive to any of them for work, shopping, dining, etc.

I used to live in Lebanon, New Hampshire. There are many places around there that offer the best of both worlds or one or another is just a few minutes down the road. I moved from N.H. to N.J.(Greater Philadelphia area) I absolutely love Philly/South Jersey but if you wanted to escape the hustle you have to head towards the Poconos, a rather far drive for old Whitey.
Speaking of Whitey... I heard he got killed in prison?

No wonder we get along David!! Down in the cave, no tv, no people, no pets. Just me and the whir of my computer fans.
You need to live where I do, mid northern praries of good ol Canada. Crickets, frogs and the odd squirrel for the most part a few crows, ravens or magpies from time to time. Some days I can walk outside and swear I can hear the grass growing. =) All this and still only 15 minutes from anything in the city. 30,000+ in Lloydminster and all the noise is where it belongs! In town. You would love it here ............. oh yeah but the weather thing ................. I'm thinking a nice visit it July LOL

Like my sig says, I live in the middle of nowhere - actually a town of about 500 people. In the Summer at nights you can hear the cars from the Speedway racing, but just barely and sometimes you can hear the crowd at the high school baseball games.
But, the smell from the hog farms - that is one is unbearable and there are few around here.

CJF, from the middle of nowhere. Hiya buddies!

Shannon,
My mom is in the desert on N 142nd Street. Very quiet out there. A but of a drive to get into the city, but very quiet.
Not sure if it is the closest, but I think the Desert Ridge Target is the closest one. I think it is between 30-40 minutes to get to.
