what is everyone's opinion about Stanton's rookie cards now that he is a Yankee? Were they below value because he was on the Marlins? or were they correctly valued? i have not checked on eBay or COMC to see if they took a bump after the trade
thoughts?

To me, with guys switching teams due to free agency, it does not raise the value now that he is on a different team, even if it is the Yankees. Personally, I feel it lowers the value. Give me the Yount, Brett, Mattingly RCs, same team as the team they finished with. Same goes for commons. I would have a Rose common in a Reds uni than in a Phillies. Rather a Hershiser common in a Dodgers uni, than a Mets, Giants, Indians uni.

I can see sellers overcharging for stars NOW with “popular” teams, but generally I doubt it has much to do long term. Especially if time with the team isn’t long or memorable.

It makes sense to me. I would guess that the Yankees probably one of the largest if not the largest fan base so there may be more people wanting rookie cards of this current Yankee. We have to remember that card value is driven by supply and dermand and in ancrease in a fan base wanting this card will increase the price.
My personal view is a rookie card shouldn't necessarily be the most valuable card of a player either. I am a Packer fan and I would rather have a Favre card in a Packers uniform over a rookie in a Falcons uniform. I also would prefer a final card of a great player showing his career stats over a rookie card showing information from his college career. But, for most people that isn't how it works so rookie cards have a premium because most people prefer rookie cards.
You have to understand that simple supply and demand formual is what drives market value of a card even if it is different than how you value a card.

Maybe if he hadn't been hurt for most of the season.

no because even though the Yankees are the most collected team in baseball players move around way too much and seldom live up to the hype. If (and big IF) Stanton has a stellar career as a Yankee it might effect the value of his RC's in the long term, but otherwise it might get hot short term then fall off radically. Someone up post was talking about RC's of players like Puckett, Clemens etc, but their value has to do with the body of their career not just the uniform they wear. I have seen a lot of hyped RC's suddenly take a bath when their career did not live up to the hype.

Or if he had more RBI's than strikeouts, just once in a season.

I have seen the same thing in hockey when players go to the Leafs. John Tavares Young Guns rookie card before July 1, 2018 was worth about C$50. Now that he is with the Leafs, you can't get one for under C$120. Assume it has to be a spike in demand now that a player is with your team ... at least the ones with the largest following.
