2016 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball Forum

In the new Gypsy Queen they have a new 1/1 thing going on, a set called Ancient Era Remnants (pictured above).

From the Topps website: 

"The Ancient Era Remnants are added hits featuring original cigarette cards that will be in a special frame. These cards will feature cards from the early 1900s with sports figures, celebrities, and more."

With no checklist concrete and lord knowing what Topps put in those frames, am I wrong to assume that these are like the new Stamped Buy Backs and shouldn't get a checklist on this site?

Seems as though Mr Topps forgot what a baseball card is.

These are not new 2016 cards. They are original cards from the early 1900s. They don't get a new checklist.  They just took an old original card and put it in a frame. To me no different then me putting it in a top loader or a graded slab.

Personally, if I had one of these I'd remove it from the frame.  And if I was a graded card collector, I'd have it removed and graded.

I'd bust it out too.

At least they aren't ruining it with a stamp though.

 I have one of those cigarette cards with a British actress, might be a different company.   Not many collectors out there for these.

Most of the cards I have seen used in these aren't especially valuable.  People are pricing them on eBay like every cigarette card ever made is as scarce as the T206 Wagner.  Now I won't go so far as to say that they aren't collectible.  But a legit checklist would be impossible unless Topps released specifics, which I don't anticipate will happen.

If I had one, and wanted to add it to my TCDB collection, I would add it to the original set and put a comment with it to remind me of what my copy is exactly.

I agree.  If Topps had numbered the carrier that would be one thing, but yeah it's just framing essentially a buy back card.  I remember when Topps did this for it's first Topps 206 set back in 2002.  But of course those were 206 buy backs, these are late 1930's and 40's British cigarette cards and while there are some cool subjects they aren't especially rare or all that valuable.
