I do not have any of these cards so can someone look them over and see if I am on glue or not. The GM edition backs seem odd, some are gold and some are silver. Is this correct or should they all be one color, likely gold (I'm guessing). Seems odd that there is no rhyme nor reason to them either. Is this an Admin thing or am I smoking a lefty?

They are correct. For once, my NBA knowledge helps answer an NHL question. The backs are the same as the base cards EXCEPT for the indent from the Fleer Ultra and Gold Medallion logos. The gold backs and silver backs separate the teams. The Gold Medallion cards are stamped from the back to raise the logos on the fronts. Check out the right side of the backs of card #'s 7 & 10. They give the best visual representation of the stamp. I was confused by the backs too after I obtained a bunch of the GM NBA cards from that year. I finally figured out what Fleer did with the coloring on the backs.

They look right - you can see the embossing on most of the cards (which is only on the Gold Medallions).

Could be completely wrong, but the gold backs are all Western Conference teams and the silver are all Eastern Conference. Possible that's what it is?

That makes even more sense than just by team. Some teams that are back to back in the CL have the same color, while some do not. I'm guessing you are correct that it was leagues that decide the color of the backs. Checking my NBA cards seems to confirm that.

Glad to help! It's odd when some of my old NBA knowledge helps anything for anybody outside of the NBA collectors. The NFL Ultra GM cards for that year were the same on the fronts but very different on the backs.
Just return the favor if I need some help when I start adding my NHL cards on here! Working on MLB now, but still a long way to go to complete that.

Love this set and was working on a master set till got distracted by another set. Awesome set I might add

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project. |
