Year: 1985

Set: Fleer (Rate)

Card: #149 Tony Armas

“ Solid design, I've always liked Fleer...back scan is terrible. Front's washed out too but at least you can see it. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Love everything about this set. ” -vrooomed

“ Boo ” -RoundtheDiamond87

“ I like everything except the gray border. Tony was one of the most injury prone players. Don't know how he last as long as he did. ” -C2Cigars

“ I love this set. One of my favorites. That is also one of my favorite stache/side fro combos as well. ” -RoyalChief

“ The Fleer sets in the 80's were amazing! ” -carthage44

“ Why has no one made a set called "all-time best mustaches in baseball"?? 85 Fleer was nothing remarkable, but in that era it didn't take much to print better-looking cards than Topps. I like these Red Sox uniforms, despite the lack of red. ” -dilemma19

“ Say what you will about 1980s Fleer but I like them. I like the look and feel that the early 1980s Fleer sets have. OK this one has the minimum for a front almost. They have the team logo and for most of the teams the team name is either part of the logo, around the logo or on one of the edges of the logo (the Phillies and Mariners seem to be the exceptions). Back is very nice and the way a modern card should be for the most part. ” -captkirk42

“ I have a lot of fond memories of buying many many packs of 85 Fleer. I definitely have soft spot for the mid-80's Fleer sets. ” -cckeith

To me, this was one of the five best baseball sets of the 1980s.  Probably in my top ten sets of all time, to be honest.  I can't think of many designs I liked more.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff.  Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

This set is a real gem. I loved it because it was so well color coordinated with the teams. My favorite card backs ever are the Fleer style of this era.

...Very cheap and depressing look that was typical of Fleer cards throughout the '80s/'90s.  At least they included complete statistics on the back unlike Donruss.  I still rip and toss every one that comes my way (contributing to the value, I guess).  I'd hate to see a new collector get infected by one of these viruses.

I think it looks better than a lot other sets from the era, but the reason I'd want to destroy it is because it's tarnished with DH. Still probably wouldn't unless it was badly damaged.

Anytime there is a Red Sox player as the card of the day is a GOOD day. Needs a better scan? Notice many cards needing a better quality scan

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.
