So spazmatastic, how do you open packs & sleeve cards? Constructive criticism is much more useful than simply saying, "NO! Bad dog!"
I would agree that there are better ways to do both. As for opening, you can split open the pack at the fold & pull it open across half the crimped edge & down the flap's fold. I do not see anything wrong with using scissors, provided you carefully slide all the cards to one end of the pack. There should be at least 1/4" of space to cut off the crimped edge & this ensures the maximum cross-sectional opening to slide the cards out - without worrying about damaging the corners on a crimped end that may not have been fully separated.
As for sleeving, I did cringe a little with the un-aided sliding of cards into the sleeves. I'm sure there is a device out on the market, but I came up with a simple DIY solution. Take a flexible top loader (like a Card Saver II), then cut off the bottom edge & one complete side. Next, cut off 1/3 to 1/2 of the opposite edge - making sure you leave at least 2 1/2" of "flap" width on the bottom, preferrably just a little bit more, so it can cover the width of a card, yet still fit within a sleeve. Then, you can insert this "device" into a sleeve, hold open the split side and slide the card in between the flaps - safely avoiding getting a corner or edge snagged on the lip of the sleeve. For aesthetics, and further card safety, you can round the corners to prevent possible surface scratches.
That's my two cents & hopefully other people find this information useful.
p.s. To carthage44, he collected $322 & based on my estimates, he had card costs of about $200, plus postage & packaging costs of about $5 per person (a total of $60, since one guy bought 3 entries). That leaves about $60 "profit". Sorting & packaging alone will take a couple hours of his time (not to mention the video-taping, updates, etc.), so he's getting "paid" $20-30/hr. Plus, he misses out on any non-Cub "hits". Those of us who opted-in on this break should have known the risk/reward at stake & I for one had no problem "paying" him the extra $5 for providing this opportunity. (edit: two boxes of TSC... maybe even less "profit" for him)
