As I have written in past forum threads, I got my start in the hobby in 1978. So, 1979 was my first anniversary in the hobby. I celebrated that by compiling 2 sets of 1979 baseball cards. (And I had enough cards to put together 3 more, if the collation was little better.)
Well, 2019 brings me to my 40th Anniversary of being in the hobby. I can't do anything nearly as spectacular as Chuck did last year (I'm also not as O - L - D as him). However, I gave it some serious thought over the past couple weeks, and this is what I am going to do:
I have selected 40 decent cards to give away to 40 lucky members here. The cards are listed here in my 40th Anniversary Collection. Preview what you're interested in. I have selected cards from Baseball, Football, Hockey, and even a couple Non-Sports. Additionally, I will send out 39 other cards (of my choice, but of your proclivity) to make each package 40 cards. (Sensing the theme here yet?)
Here are the "rules":
- You must respond to this thread saying "I want to participate" to participate.
- You must be one of the first 40 people to respond to the thread to be able to participate.
- You will know that you have "made the cut" because I will respond with your id and a number. The number is simply the order in which you have been recognized as a participant.
- When I have 40 participants, I will run the names through Random.org 4 times (40 would just be corny, now wouldn't it?).
- Whoever comes out as #1 gets first pick. #2 gets second, and so on, to the last pick.
- Each participant must pick a card within 3 days of being notified that it is their turn to pick. Failure to do so within 3 days (not hard-fast 72 hours, but at least 72 hours) will relegate their pick to the bottom of the list.
- No whining. :)
Yes, this may take a while to fill up the pool, and then have picks occur. If you are impatient for free items, please don't request to participate.
I put the cards in a collection so I can easily transfer them over to your collection.
Oh, and whoever winds up being 40 in the Random generator will get something special (picked just for them). I will pick it once I know who it is.
The cards in the mix are generally decent cards. Some of the cards pre-1979 are not absolutely perfect. But they are very nice specimens.
