Well, I know this topic has been covered many times, 1 more time......
Certain entries carry a double standard. What is allowable?
Postcards? absolutely, there is a special category.
Pocket schedules, NO, but there are some listed, apparently special criteria?
Stickers? Oh yeah, Players, Team logos and more.
Coins? yes but apparently they carry special criteria too.
Publications, yes and no...Which ones are allowed? Which ones are not?
OK, that brings me to PINS, I looked and they are listed, both players and logos....so I can add some I suppose, no rule here! Why not INSIGNIAS, once again, if a team logo is pictured it should be OK. Slightly larger than a postcard, Logo front and blank back like many stickers. Like many Tattoos, which are also listed.
Is there a clearcut definition of what can be listed and what can't? I understand, TRADING CARD, but as long as the TCDB has not refused other items, the old "double standard" appears to be in play here.
Comments please............~BOB~

I would like to catalog "Baseball Digest" here. I have, what I believe to a complete run of the magazine from its first issue in the early 1940s to around 1980.
I've contacted Baseball Digest for a complete list of issues published. They directed me to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, who should have a copy of most issues. Cooperstown responded to my emails by quoting me an hourly rate for research.
I asked to catalog Baseball Digest here some time ago and was denied. I understand why and I tend to agree.
However, I was able to catalog all issues of Topps Magazine, though.
Anyone know where a complete list of published Baseball Digest issue may be?

As far as mags go, I believe they have to be card related. Thus no programs, yearbooks, SI, Baseball Digest and others.

Here's how I understand it:
Pocket schedules that are fold outs are not allowed, but single pane cards that happen to have a schedule on them, in place of stats, are allowed.
Coins, pins and other non cardboard objects that were inserted as inserts in packs of cards are absolutely documented here. Standalone coin and pin sets are not, UNLESS they were issued by a card company, in which case they are.
Magazines must be card related. General sports magazines like Sports Illustrated are not, because they are not about cards. I believe SI for Kids SHOULD be documented here, either in publications or as packaging for the card sets, they do have 9 or more cards in every issue, but Admin said no. (As an aside, if there was a magazine database like ours, I'd absolutely be a part of it. I've been collecting magazines since the late 1980s and consider it one of my hobbies)
That's how I understand it, as I said above. That doesn't mean I am correct.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. I think you summed it up pretty nicely Billy. I never got the why the schedules were included, but I don't run the site. I never thought about SI For Kids being included, but I think the reasoning could be 95% of the magainze isn't card related, so it shouldn't be included. If that is the logic I can see that and agree with it. However, I wouldn't be against the idea of the covers being included with the packaging. I think it would be kind of fun if the magazine started making one of the cards the cover for that issue. You could still have 8 other athlete cards, just make the center piece a replica cover card.
Also like the idea of a magazine database. I would be all for that, a site I used to frequent would buy old WCW wrestling magazines off ebay and scan them and post them. I didn't read too many of them, but liked looking at the covers.

I think part of the confusion is that the places issuing the schedules use two different styles that are wholly different. One is a fold out printed paper, the other is cardboard...some of the latter have even been issued in numbered series with different athletes on the front. That's really a trading card which has a schedule on it, instead of stats, and those ARE here.

On the pocket schedule issue the FAQ also has a link to a prime example. http://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/111129/cid/7641902/2011-TCU-Horned-Frog-Volleyball-Schedules-NNO-Meghan-Horio There are still plenty of pocket schedules in the database that don't meet both criteria.
From FAQ:
Pocket schedules that resemble traditional trading cards are allowed. The schedules must meet the following criteria:
-
- Double-sided (not foldout)
- Serialized (can be compiled as cohesive sets)

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

For schedules like that I completely understand. I mean it even has player bios on the back. Its the one card sets just showing a team or a logo or something that just happened to be on cardboard that I've never got behind.
