Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for efficient ways to add individual players to a collection? I have been working for months to get my cards into the DB and I still have hundreds of cards I would like to add to my collection and my for sale and wantlists.
Adding partial sets is pretty easy but adding indiviual players is slow. Part of my problem is the that cards themselves are not ideally organized. I have been re-organizing them by year and brand but even then it takes a while to find and enter each individual card. The other part of the problem is that there are just so many different cards for each player - especially from the junk wax era which is what most of my cards are. I knew that these cards were overproduced - but I had no idea there are thousands of different cards for each player until I started using this site.
Using the filters helps - but I wish I could filter for all the different types of sets produced by a single company. Also the filters must be reset whenever you select an action like "add to wantlist" so the efficiency gained by limiting the number of cards presented is lost by having to reset the filter every time I add a card (or series of cards).
The size of this database is amazing, and I have only looked at the baseball cards. It is also awesome that the site is free! So I don't want to sound like I am complaining at all. I am just eager to get my cards entered so I can start trading more actively!
Thanks

Matt, one trick I use on my Want List is simply to go back a page once I've entered a player's card and refreshing. Also, I use the filter function on individual players that I'm adding to my Trade List or Collection simply by using the card number and returning to that page (no refreshing is needed in that case). On modern cards that may still be tedious as there are tons from any card company.
Hope that helps.

This isn't a perfect answer and you may have this figured out but here's a way to add to your collection without resetting your filters for each card.
- Go to the player's page
- Click "Collection Summary"
- Under "Cards" click "add/update" (This will produce a "workable" list of all the player's cards)
- At the top of the page click "filters"
- Select your filters (year, brand, etc.)
This will produce a "workable" list matching your filter selection. Unfortunately you can only select one filter element at a time (at least I don't know how to select multiple filter items).
Again, it's not perfect but it does help save some time by creating a workable list instead of filtering for one card at a time.
EDIT: after a little trial and error, I figured out how to select multiple filter items....after you select your first filter, click filters again and select your next filter. Both filter criteria will then be applied. You can see what filters are currently applied in a row at the top of the page. Very useful, very easy.
The functionality of this database is amazing. Even after seven years here, I'm still learning stuff.

yes and as mentioned above. i too have a single player collection. you can also just type in the players name in the search bar and all of thier cards will appear with the years hyperlinks. you can then click on collection summary and add specific or all cards to your wantlist or as you choose

I think his main concern was knowing shortcuts to this process which can become tedious.

This is a belated thank you to all your suggestions.
The most efficient method I have found is to type the baseball player I want to add into the search box to get a listing of all that player's cards. Then I scrool down and Ctrl-Click on each year/card I want to enter into my collections. This way I can add each card to my personal collection and/or my wantlist or for sale list, without refreshing or re-setting any filters. Still a bit tedious but I am making progress.
Thanks again for the tips - this site is really pretty amazing.

I agree with the struggle to enter a large collection sorted by player into the site. I love the site, been a memebr for years but still have not found an easy way to enter large quantities of cards. I search by players name, click collection summary, add/update, then I have to go down and click each card I have. I am ok with this process, but that is where it gets difficult. Now I have to go back and pull these up one at a time to change QTY. There is a link to update pricing. Why cant we update qty on the same page. Still not perfect but it would make it at least possible to enter large quantities of cards. Is it possible to have a qty field added to the update pricing page for a better way of entering large quantities of cards (for example the 2,600 1989 donruss craig biggio rookies, haha).

to add 2,600 1989 donruss craig biggio rookies just click on the arrow in the little box next to his name and then click on the add multiples and you can type in the number you have.

Where can you type in the number, I see a dropdown that allows mw to add up to 10 at a time?
