That may have been a profit nonetheless for him. By the way, I'd love to be in a heated bidding war, but I always wait until the last few seconds to bid and more often than not I lose!

A certain HitShow? I won't buy from him if I notice it's him.

I can't stand sellers who don't understand how best offer works.
I also heavily collect die-cast, and a particular GMP 1/18th scale Mustang had just released a couple years ago at about $130 straight from them. I checked eBay completed listings and most were selling in the $115 to $135 range, free s/h at that time. I found a seller who had 10+ and made an offer of $135 to his asking price of $150. He came back with $149. So I countered with $136, and he countered back $149 again. I declined. Was able to get one for $125 earlier this year.
Why even have that option if you can't do any better than that? Another that irks me are the ones who let it expire with no kind of contact at all.

I wish people would say who the really bad sellers are. It could keep others from having to suffer the consequenses of another deal gone wrong.
Probably not me though as I rarely go on ebay.
On the other hand, I would also like to hear reports of sellers who go above and beyond, because I'd be much more inclined to buy from them.

Billy, two of my posts do just that.

this comment is not specifically directed to any person on this thread.
I don't understand why people get mad when their offer is declined.
just like every buyer has their particular motivations of why they collect and what their goals or favorites are, sellers have the same.
some items that I sell, I do no mind taking reasonable offers, but there are other items that I would sell all day long at the listed price, but would not want to sell at any discount higher than 10%.
bidding is a choice, offering/accepting/declining/countering offers are a choice...not a personal attack.

I don't think anyone is saying that they get mad when their offier is declined. That's no big deal. When the seller raises his asking price after declining an off, that is what is problematic and will cause me to avoid that seller from now until eternity.

Agree wholeheartedly - and I've had offers declined and accepted so I understand no one is compelled to accept an offer - my original post was specifically not about the denial, but about raising the price immediately afterwards - verified by the updates provided on each listing by Ebay. My subsequent point was the lack of communication. Had the seller told me, "I mistakenly posted the incorrect price," or "I forgot to remove the check off the "Make an Offer" option," then we'd have a different situation.
