The union of postal workers might start taking rotating strike action on Monday (Oct 22). Apparently negotiations continue, with a mediator. Good signs I suppose; better than a possible full-on strike.

I don't think the union leaders are too bright. "Rotating" strikes will only result in making more customers realize they are just fine with receiving mail two or three times per week instead of daily, and ultimately make it that much easier for the corporation to downsize employees and reduce service accordingly.
We have "superboxes" here rather than door-to-door delivery, and I only walk over to check the box once or twice per week anyway. If mail was only delivered, say, on Mondays and Thursdays, or Tuesdays and Fridays, I wouldn't even notice the difference.

Was thinking the same thing, half a strike is not a strike. Go all the way or not at all. Is this the Canadians way of saying 'sorry'?

I still received two packages since the "rotation" began.. Unless a total strike it will likely be not much more than a delay/bother as deliveries from the "south" generally take 7-10 days so 1 or 2 more won't be noticed here.

Totally agree with Bevans and sandyrusty. I might check my mailbox at the end of our block daily if I'm expecting something, but otherwise a couple of times per week is our usual.
These rotating strikes are only showing people that they can probably do without daily mail. Delaying the mail a day or two doesn't affect the average citizen very much. The only people benefitting are the courier companies.
Not that I'm calling for a full-out Canada Post strike!!

Heard on the news today that Canada Post has asked British and Chinese mail services to hold parcels coming to Canada. Apparently there's a 30 day delivery delay due to the rotating strikes. The problem is that the postal workers are targeting their rotating strikes at strategic centres, such as the major hub in Mississauga, just east of Toronto, which processes 2/3 of the parcels moving through the system. They're shutting these targets for 2 or 3 days at a time.
Doesn't seem like letter mail is affected though. I have 5 trades currently in progress, with bubble mailers coming from within the province of Ontario (where I live), the continental USA, Hawaii, and France. We'll see...
