I don't think it will matter much, to be honest, for the sure things. Everyone knows that Rivera and Pujols and Ichiro are going to be HOFers eventually, so I suspect the prices on the cards reflect that. I'm not sure the actual coronation of such players will significantly alter the price. But it can't hurt to get them before they're voted in, because the demand will increase when they are.
Players like Harold Baines, however, (too late), whom no one expected to make it, and even on-the-edgers, like Mattingly, might increase quite a bit in value once they're actually in the Hall.
Good luck.

I have a really good mattingly set aside for the PC but he does not fall in my “Super 84” so might not make my wall display

V3,
I agree that some like Pujols et al pretty much are stable based on their stellar HOF careers. But I'm not sure if Baines' value will increase much at least initially if collectors treat him as they have Biggio. Maybe it has more to do with production during each player's RC year, although '81 (I believe that's Baines' RC) is rather accessible still. I even had 3 at one point and traded each away. In fact if I recall correctly I traded 4 of them and had to make amends to a partner for that.

Joshua,
Yeah, I was completely speculating on the prices of a Baines-type just based on the alleged laws of supply and demand. There are collectors who target HoFers, like in this thread. So they should go after Baines cards now, although they wouldn't have before. In theory, that increased demand should drive up the prices. And there will certainly be some people on eBay or in stores who just automatically jack up the prices on HoFers whether its warranted or not. Don't know if it really plays out that way, though.

I bet the market for just PSA10 Hofer rc is much different than the market for same raw, especially when we are talking about 80s and 90s where large supply exists.
