The NHL, NHLPA, and Upper Deck have announced that the contract for exclusivity rights of the NHL crest, NHLPA crest, and all team logos has been renewed. This is despite the protests of fans who miss Panini in the NHL and would like to see companies such as Leaf and Topps have the ability to make lisenced NHL cards. Once again the NHL has chosen money over the will of their fans.

I don't like exclusive licenses as I don't think any collector actually does, even though I think UD does a pretty good job (I've been dealing with exclusvies since 2001, in NASCAR). One thing interesting about the new announcement is that UD has signed a deal with the NHL Retired Players association, which supposedly brings more than 900 players to UD. That might be good.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Very disappinting. I've all but stopped collecting UD and was hoping that Panini or Leaf would get a chance to compete. In The Game made some quality cards before being bought out by Leaf, and Leaf has exclusive contracts with young stars like Eichel, Hischier, and Patrick. Still not enough apparently..what a joke.

Had them,
https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/upper-deck-opens-certified-dealer-conference/
"New exclusive autograph agreements with Jack Eichel and Nico Hischier that will result in some signed rookie cards in retro fashion. The two had been under auto deals with Leaf, meaning neither had signed NHL-licensed rookie cards during their actual rookie season."

Kari I am buying pre-1987 Non Sports. Let's discuss if you have any for sale, even if not listed here. --------------------------------------- There are no bad days.

Well that should drop revenue for poor ol Leaf, buy out ITG and now lose your two biggest names in hockey. Nolan Patrick not enough to get excited about!!

Monopolies are unamerican

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I thought Leaf was under the Panini umbrella. Shows what I know. Also, this should be a relief to most people as Panini sets all look the same anyway.

I guess that's good news, but would have been better if they signed rookie cards. Then again, it would have been much better if they signed RCs for two or three different companies
