That is just infuriating. The large checklists/cheap price points for the old Topps Total were appealing to me. Where else could you find cards of middle relievers and backup catchers? (Yes, I am a team collector, so that's important to me.)

The price point doesn't fit the product. I want relievers and backup catchers like Madding does. I'm sure most baseball collectors in these forums do too, at least for their favorite teams. But people who spend $10 for a 10-card pack probably don't want to pull Dominic Leone and Chad Wallach.
As to the other question, basically it's a set released in nine series, so I would agree that they get added to the checklist with each new release, just like a two-series Topps set.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Like others have said, I will be interested in the depth players in this set, but would not be willing to drop this much money on it for a slim chance of getting those cards. Will definitely be surfing the Internet for these cards.

So disappointed in this. I want Topps Total back but not as an on demand product at that price point.
Even if you lucked out with perfect distribution and no parallels replacing cards, it would cost $900 for a set? Yeah, right.

Should this set go under Major Release or On-Demand? I'm leaning Major Release, but I'm sure if Topps is only going to produce to demand or not. Thoughts?

Tough one. They say they will release print runs after sales for each wave have ended so it sounds like they’re printing (or at least selling) to demand

Wow, everything that sucks about Inception, Opening Day, and Now, all rolled into one set! Topps has outdone themselves here!

I say major release. They're being sold in packs.

I would want the imperial spy from that set from Star Wars IV or the very first star wars. Not many people know this but the Voice of the Imperial Spy was John Wayne. Too bad that card will never be signed unless it a cut auto and it would be a 1/1
Back to the OP:
I liked Topps Total for that set had many good rookies might as well be their first card in their MLB Uniform even though the rookie card would be out a few years later but, 850-1200 cards per set is crazy but then again 1990 upper deck had 850 cards so be it
