I bought a couple of these type of envelopes - I'm not asking that they be added, just seeking information. Does anyone know about these?

I bought these (Snyder/Mays & Roe) in Canada for a buck each. The little I've found about them is that they're silk cachet envelopes, but not much beyond that. They have different postmarks (if they are actual postmarks. I found them interesting and for the price worth the purchase.

I used to collect stamps.  Covers like these are fairly common.  The US Post Office issues special postmarkks for special events quite frequently.  When they do, you can mail in a self addressed stamped envelope to get the postmark.  Some printers send in a bulk lot of envelopes with special artwork on them.  These envelopes are called "cachet", sometimes labeled "silk cachet" if the art is silk screened.  They get sold by cataloge for a premium by the printers, but general only cary a resale value of a few dollars. 

A cool addition to your collection, especially if you collect baseball material.

I have also seen them referred to as First Day Covers.  I have seen a number of Brewers/Robin Yount ones or very similar items out there.  I haven't purchased any yet, but...  

On the Brewers, one I have seen it wasn't so much an event for which the USPS had a special stamp as Retroboysaz notes above, but rather ones which were made ahead of time in anticipation of the event to happen.  Then they items were stamped with the USPS markings for that date.  

For example, quick ebay search - Robin Yount had his 3000 hit on Sept. 9, 1992.  This cover commorates that event and is stamped with the USPS mailing stamp with that date.  Yount also appears to have signed this one (maybe!), but...

I think they are pretty interesting as well and they are on the list to try and obtain someday, but hasn't happened yet!

Thanks for the information guys. If I was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan I surely would have bought more of these as the guy had a lot of them.
