Is anyone familiar with Dean's Cards on eBay?
I was wondering how in the hell could he sell cards at such ridiculous prices.
For instance, he is asking $1,100 for a Near Mint 1981 Topps Basketball set.
Also crazy prices on singles.
Thanks.

All I will say is in my saved searches for older cards, I have filtered out that seller's listings.

Their cards on COMC are always way higher priced than most of the others although he usually has cards that look to to be in really great shape.

Avoid, avoid, avoid. Just saying. I'll admit that I have never bought from them, but they are way higher priced for lesser quality cards. They feed on desperation of a collector. I've gotten great looking cards for much cheaper by on eBay when biding my time.

I guess if someone want a card that he has for sale or at auction bad enough. They will go after it.

Back before I knew better, I bought from Dean's. They did have decent estimations of condition. I was pleasantly suprised when my cards arrived. Once I got a little more familiar, I bought more from other areas, because of the price. I haven't bought from them since. I also am not in the market for the high dollar, really old stuff either. If I do find something that they have and they are the most reasonable price, I wouldn't hesitiate to buy from them again. But just like the others say, they usually are the most expensive.

I also have them filtered out on my ebay searches.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I've bought from them early on, and very rarely - emphasis on very - have I found a better price with Dean's Cards. And if I ever do - emphasis on ever - find a better price for similar or better conditioned cards, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them. I do like their search system and the way they present their options for each card. I do trust their handle on the product of trading cards, meaning their identification of authentic vintage cards, and I'd rather buy from someone I believe has an original card and not a counterfeit. I've gotten really skittish with most Ebay merchants (not you, Joe - I'll continue buying from you when I see something I really want) and their vintage sales and have been unable to pull the trigger on quite a few recent finds; cards that are within my price range, but I just don't trust them much anymore. So I won't shut the door on Dean's Cards, but I also don't think I'll end up finding most of what I want at the best price there, either.

My thoughts would echo others. They are trusted as a seller. I would imagine back in they day they thrived on catalog order for vintage set builders but it seems now they cater to a small market that collects vintage but does not care for graded cards. So in that respect if you want to buy a high dollar vintage card in nice shape without worrying about trimming, forgery, etc. that isn't held captive in a slab you might go to them as a high roller. Funny I mentioned trimming because they're probably now as trusted at grading as the big companies. Probably a few dozen rich guys keep them in business at this point though
