Hi,
Any proven tricks/methods to removing the protective coating without physically damaging the card? I've googled this and found nothing other than the debates of whether or not to take it off.

So far I’ve had luck just peeling it off with my finger nail. My criteria for keep it on or peel it off is if it’s for my pc I peel it otherwise it stays on

During the Great Reorganization, I’ve peeled every card in my collection. I’ve noticed the protective peel when left on, can cause discoloration on the card; a yellowing of sorts. I carefully pick the peel on the corner with my nail and hold the card flat on my desk to keep it from bending or creasing. Peel slowly and enjoy!

SUCCESS! A combination of using the thumbnail and keeping the card pressed flat on the desk make removal simple. It takes about a minute, but no issues! Thank you!

I've pulled all protective films from my cards. Yes, the adhesive on the film can cause discoloration to some cards. Some of the older ones I've received in trades/buys had a discoloration. It was NEVER designed nor intended to be left on. It was designed to be left on only long enough to protect the cards while in the package. And besides they're butt ugly with it left on. Why would you want a card with writing across the face?

Chuck I never knew that. I hate the covering but always thought it hurt the value of the card to take it off.

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

A NJ card shop owner told me to keep the protective film on if you're wanting to get it graded. Since that doesn't matter to me, they ALL get pulled off, as I believe as Chuck stated, "they're butt ugly" otherwise. It bothers me as part of my collection. I leave them on when it's trade material, though.

At one time I thought that, then later I just didn't care one way or the other. After seeing Chuck's post and the yellowing factor. I think from now on when I see one of these I'll peel 'em off. I don't think I have ever personally removed the film. I've had plenty of cards with and without. I also agree with the "butt ugly" comment

Do the grading companies even leave it on? Anyone have any images of a PSA/Beckett/SCG graded card with the protective film left on?
