Im aware that "bad" images get flagged for replacement or moved due to wrong placement but do some simply get deleted? It seems to have happened enough times for me to ask. (run of the mill common cards that I put into my collection a year ago just now showing up as needing an image now)

Generally images only get completely removed (or moved, I suppose) if they're in the wrong spot. Do you have an example or two?

If the image is in the incorrect spot and it cannot be moved to the correct spot because the correct image is already there, the image will be deleted.

If the image is watermarked, the image will be deleted.

If the image is a mockup, the image will be deleted.

I've noticed cards that I swore had scans before that suddenly don't in my collection from time to time. It turned out to be that the card had variants discovered (like all those INC [no dot] vs INC. [with dot] Donruss cards or Topps with different letters printed on a back corner, etc.). Since they're split into 2 pages, one version won't have scans right away (since only one of the versions would be in the scan that was on the site before the variants were split). If my collection info is moved to the version without a scan and I notice, it's actually kind of good because it lets me know that I now need to double-check that I have all the correct versions in my collection.

Only 2 examples I can give is 1997 Skybox Premium Ben Coates (one of the first cards I entered last year) recently showed up as needing an image (no clue when/if image got deleted) but it has happened more than this one) and then again today I added cards and it showed up telling me which ones needed scans. After scanning the crads I added and uploading pics, another popped up as needing a scan (was scanned previously as I saw an image???) 2013 Fleer Ultra Showcase Theo Riddick

Looks like the Coates scan is a Reebok parallel, so I assume it will get removed again when somebody notices.  That would explain that one, maybe the other ones are also the wrong card?

So is that 1997 Skybox premium your actual card in the current image?  As switzr1 pointed out, that is not the correct image for that card - so you might not have the card you think you do.  That image looks like the Reebok silver insert card.  That is probably why it was deleted. I couldn't find the other card you mentioned, I couldn't find that set/insert anywhere. 

Looks like 2 IRs have been submitted to remove the Ben Coates images in the past couple of weeks.

Your reply actually gave the answer to what I was trying to ask, and since it was pointed out I did the same by adding the reebok card. I scanned the base card and corrected the image

I'd like to know what happens to members who continually upload pictures, Photoshop'ed, or watermarked images (members who have been on here for years are culprits, too).

Is there a counter that keeps track of their misdeeds every time in IR is created or image replaced?
