I just bought a card on ebay auction and it was a pretty nice deal I thought (1986 Topps Steve Young RC). I paid within minutes of winning the auction. Within an hour, the transaction was cancelled with a note that the Buyer cancelled the order which of course I did not do. I did get a full refund and so I can't file a claim. This is garbage! How can I report this seller? Every avenue for me seems to be blocked. I know Ebay is set up in the buyer's favor, but if there was no reserve and the seller didn't get what they wanted for the item, they shouldn't be able to cancel the order like that without proof from the buyer. Any advice? TIA.

Can you leave negative feedback, if only to warn others?

I've had this happen a couple times. Unfortunately, once thy've issued the refund, the transaction is cancelled and no feedback can be left in either direction. Very frustrating.

Sorry about that, Dan. If you cannot give negative feedback I'd surely find the item number and send an email to Ebay if only to complain that you didn't cancel the order. And, I'd share his ID with the community. I wouldn't want to buy from someone who works in that manner.
I've had a seller cancel a purchase claiming that he didn't have the cards. It turns out it was partly true as he didn't have some of the small lot he advertised (apparently). He relisted a similar lot and I was able to get better cards and a few more for about the same price. So I think his cancellation was legit, while your seller seems shady.

I had this happen a few months ago. Bought a vintage card of Charley Taylor (Redskins WR) for 0.99. Seller clearly didn't think it would sell that low and said he couldn't find the card but "would keep looking", two days later he cancelled and I got a refund. Card really wasn't worth THAT much anyway, so I guess he must've decided he'd rather keep it.
As a seller myself, I've run into unfortunately low selling prices when I've listed at 0.99 for items that actually should have sold for more. I sold a pretty obscure video game for $7 that should really have sold for $40-50 or more. Oftentimes its something that may be rare but doesn't have a large collecting base. I've always sent out though, regardless.

I've been there before also. This seller was advertising 4 of the same set on his page. I won, paid promptly and he cancelled just as quickly the order was placed. I won the auction at price WAY below what he was selling the other 3 for. He stated "missing or damaged" for reason of cancel. I called BS to eBay, but yep, no joy.
Lately I've run into the seller not shipping all cards in an order (i.e. order 5 singles, only 4 shipped). One or two will be missing, I report it and eBay will simply say, nope, no refund for you, the order was marked as delivered.

I had a deal like that a couple years ago. I reported the seller and it looked like someone else did the same for the same reason, seller did get kicked off ebay shortly after that. I would report them and leave feedback to warn others. If you cannot fimd a link make a phone call to ebay.

maybe you can buy something else for .99 and leave sarcastic feedback on it about the other one that was cancelled

I believe eBay's days are numbered. Lots of issues that have been around for years that go unaddressed.
- Invoices can only include 40 items
- Buyer "Make an Offer" must be at least $0.99
- Combining shipping on multiple items requires a leap of faith from buyer that seller will offer it
- Seller can set any combined shipping cost without buyer approval
- Seller has power to report buyer "unpaid" which keeps buyer from bidding on certain auctions
- Website constantly reports "try again later"
- Historical data is not available on website, requires user to request and wait multiple days for a report to be generated
I've been searching for over a year for a place to sell, besides this wonderful place. Mercari seems to be the current front runner but still lacks the popularity of eBay.
