Just wandering how many collectors do we have and then how many collectors are card shop owners?

I'll go first (unless someone types and sends while I'm typing). Obsessed with card collecting as a kid in St. Louis Metro-East area in the 70's. Took a hiaitus when I went to co llege, but my dad hit a mid-life crisis at about the same time, I guess, and took it over. Combine that with the junk years and I've got a pretty good sized collection that I took back over about 15 years later (no...did not take me 15 years for college). Enough extras laying around I feel like I should open one, but definitely I'm a collector.
Ray--ironically you didn't categorize yourself. Please reply and let us know.

I'm with Billy though did not start my present collection till 1990. Haven't stopped since. Sell a card??? Did not know one could do that. But I love this site for trading. Just received another 20 cards in teh mail and have to more trades on the go for the same number.
And, by the way, "sandy's singles" is also me; it was the only way I could really see my collecction of individual players from my sets list.

Took me around 50 years before I decided to unload cards. First cards, if you can them that, that I sold was my 1966 strat-o-matic set. Their odd size did not store well so they went first..

Collector now. Had a small shop when I was much younger, with my Dad and brother. Didn't make any money at all but kind of learned the basics of running a business. Mainly just my brother and I handling it. I was just out of school, and he was still in school. We were only open like 3-5 because I had a real job too. Would never have any interest of doing something like that again.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Started collecting in 1964. In the 52 years, collected pretty seriously for at least 30 years. With my children all grown and moved out, I have a lot of space for cards, and have pretty well filled the house. While I have been scanning a lot of Baseball, Hockey andf Football in the past couple of years, I will get back to scanning the interesting stuff again at some point.

Collector since 1971, highs and lows, but never considered myself to have stopped collecting. Have I sold cards? Sure! No shame in that. Don't need more than one of each. So I sell my doubles on eBay and then buy more cards. Now that I've completed a few trades here, I might try that before listing on eBay. But I enjoy selling, then buying a lot, then selling. I almost prefer to buy a big lot and learn what's new to me than just buying the exact cards I need.
But, certainly a collector, not a shop.
