Went to the yearly sports mem and card show this weekend in the big bad city of Edmonton, AB. It was ok but holy moly the money that flies around there is CRAZY!!! People dropping thousands of dollars on the stuff. Mostly hockey up here of course but some football (both US and CDN) and a touch of baseball. I had been saving for the event for a year and had my weekend budget of 500. Came hope happy with my haul, so was my buddy who came up with me (his first time) he got a couple of auto Oiler jerseys for his collection and a Holtby RC. I on the other hand got a sweet ITG (no eye rolling) Game Used 15-16 Team 8's, Oilers of course and has Ranford on it!! Pricey as it also had Gretzky but dove in head first and dealed hard, I got it for $60 beans. It has eight jersey swatches on it and only SN20. Got a cool 24K gold canadian quarter that has the Oilers logo in a ceramic type finish on one side for $20. A few other baubles, some old Oiler calanders with my guy in them. But used the bulk for some higher end hobby boxes, got some pretty good deals but only if they produce anything LOL. Opened two last night and are so-so at best. Cross my fingers on the rest. All in all had fun but it was a Connor McDavid freak fest up there .... hard to buy your team's stuff when the show is at your team's city!!

I will Billy at some point yup, but if we are talking Bill Ranford cards I only bought the one card. LOL All the cards I have left of his to get are pricey, rare or BOTH! I like volume over price like most of us. I dorve 2.5 hours to get to Edmonton so I feel your pain bud.

Sounds fantastic. Just got some birthday money myself and went to my card shop for instant gratification instead of buying on eBay. Couldn't quite bring myself to spend all the money on old cardboard, but I gotta say it was a helluva lot of fun dropping $200 on supplies and really old cards. I was the stereotypical kid in a candy store. I'll be satisfied for a little while now.

I hear you, Billy. No card shows AT ALL around here and the only so called card shops are Vintage Stock chain stores which only sell high priced packs and WAY over priced singles... who buys this stuff?

Awesome times I see.
I think the last time I went to a card show was in 2012???? Small show but it was fun looking at all the stuff. Only bought a few cards.
I usually buy online or a few times a year I go to the local card shop.
Looking forward to seeing what you got. What boxes did you end up getting?

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

Just wondering, how do you find out about your card show? I live in Mt. USA and would love a road trip to big bold Canada for a card show. Thanks.

The card shop I use is right in Edmonton itself and they are big supporters of it so he makes sure to let us all know, I do know that there is one in Calgary as well a few weeks (?) before Edmonton's. If your curious just google Edmonton hockey card show or Edmonton The Summit and see where it leads you. =)

I bet I haven't been to a card show in 15 years. I'm certain it was before I moved to California, which was 2003. How long before that, I can't be sure. Card shows were the best. I'm not sure I would enjoy one now, because I can't imagine dealers would bring the type of stuff I like to buy.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
