Today I receive my first grail card! Nobody ever expects to acquire such cards, but today a Kirby Puckett XRC graded PSA 8 will be finally in my possession. So happy to finally get this card. To not make this a pointless brag post, what was the first, "grail card," you got?

Thanks - TwinKiller. (Luke)

Congrats, always liked Kirby and had also wanted his xrc card.
My grail may not be that big. When I was a kid I bought a 1987 Mark McGwire Donruss. It was the first card I spent a decent amount on, think it was $5 or so. When I got back into collecting a few years back I went ahead and picked up a PSA 10.

Congrats on the Puckett card.
Mine was a '69 Topps Reggie RC. Went to buy something else and the shop owner offered it for $35.00, and I took it. It is in decent condition and one of the handful of cards I've exceeded my $20.00/card limit.

There is a lot for me on here. The card I wanted for the longest time before I got it was the 1982 Topps Traded Cal Ripken Jr. rookie card. I wanted this so bad when I was a kid, but could never afford it. It was fairly easy to get my hands on once I got to adulthood. I'd say my first true grail card was this:
1981 WTF Rochester Red Wings #1 Calvin Ripken Jr. | Trading Card Database (tcdb.com)
I eyed this card for a long time, and finally pulled the trigger on a PSA 7. This is probably a grail for me because its so much more rare than either the 1982 Traded, or the 1981 TCMA. The WTF is a PR1800 and doesn't come available terribly often. It's also the first time I spent more than $500 on a single card.
There are some 1980 AA cards out there of Ripken, but they appear to be so wildly forged it would be impossible to tell if I got a authentic card.

Rankings: #6 Cal Ripken Jr.; #4 Chris Cooley; #6 Sean Taylor; #24 Josh Allen (BUF)

Congratulations! That is definitely a great card to get, always did like him! I don't really have a grail card, but the closest thing I can think of recently is getting the 2014 Topps yellow parallel of Mike Trout. I just knew that would be the toughest and final card to complete that set but I lucked out and got it. Things always change so who knows what the future will bring?

That Kirby is a fantastic card - enjoy it forever!
The first vintage set I ever completed was 1959 Topps baseball, and the last card needed was the #10 Mantle. It was (at the time) the most I spent on a single card. Knowing it was going to be mine and the chase over, there was a nervous energy that still appears upon the big transactions and/or big sets being finished.

I'm not sure I really had one but one card I was happy to add was I finally purchased a Walter Payton rookie card a couple years ago.

I wanted a Trammell/Molitor RC for Christmas '87, and got one. Real nice shape too. It was my favorite and best card for a while. Then I sold it, in '93 I think, for $55. When I got back into collecting in 2010, it was one of the first cards I set about reacquiring. Got a real nice one off of ebay for $27. I also got the 78 BK Tigers team set, which I never even knew about as a kid.

Generally, the condition I look for is: 1800s-1929 - G and up (1+)... 1930-1951 - VGEX and up (2.5+).. 1952-1967 - EX and up (5+)... 1968-1978 - EXMT and up (6.5+)... 1979-1994 - EXMT/NM and up (7.5+)... 1995-present - NM+ and up (8.5+)

Fantastic Kirby RC! Congratulations.
My daughter and I went to a show in March with the "dream" goal of getting a Jackie Robinson card from his playing days.
We enjoyed ourselves at the show but most cards like that were graded and way out of our price range. Towards closing time, we spotted an ungraded 1955 Jackie. One "please Dad!?!" later and it was ours.

I guess it would be a dream card as I looked for it for years. Thanks to member PSAbolts here I got it. Derrie Nelson card a 1985 Kodak San Diego Chargers card. He was in the eight grade when I as a senior. Did not know him that well but his 2 older sisters were the best baseball players in the school. Small school my class was the largest one at 32 members. My sister's class only had 8.
