Unfortunately/Fortunately (prices) a lot of my PC cards get relegated to value boxes/commons bins (due to unsucessful performance in NFL) I recently came across an auto for my PC and inquired as to the price (can be bought for 5-10) and was told 150 (pre draft pricing from 2 years ago?) I simply said no and was ready to move on, when seller explained that since he signed with Chiefs before Super Bowl (within 30 days to practice squad) his price was "justified" since he now gets a Super Bowl ring (cut after Super bowl). I suppose Im aware that sellers can ask/sell for whatever they want it got me wondering if theres anything besides performance that raises a card's value or does this go into the same category as sellers "justifying" thier price just like the guy that said his high price was accurate since he might have a breakout year (when player had been retired for 9 years and wasnt sucessful in nfl)

Hi,
I saw the same problem with cigarette cards & gum cards with actors & singers.
Some seller are putting certain cards at way higher value than the complete set (Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra) etc...
Last one I dealt with was asking 40 £ for a set of 10 sweet cigarettes cards, the set is valued at 12 £, simply because it had a Frank Sinatra card within..
I'm sorry, but if a set of 10 cards is worth 12 £, that's 1,20 £ per card...
Who cares if a subject as became famous ? Not me, I collect cards, not relics...

First on the main subject card prices should always be based on demand regardless of who the subject is and how successful or not they are. but that being said just because a player gets a superbowl ring. Especially for a player on the practice squad. There is no basis for the higher price.
And on Petibonum's issue just because the set is 12L does not mean the singles are worth 1.2L each especially with film star stuff big stars in an older set will always bring a premium price because a set broken down into singles is always going to be more valuable then the whole. Sellers sell complete sets for less then what they could piece it out at to move the less popular cards.

Since I dont know basketnball I dunno what Mark Jackson is infamous for, but you reminded me of a seller that was asking 2x what a card was going for (OJ Simson Rookie) because he was a convicted murderer, I replied that he wasnt convicted, so he asked why I thought he was innocent. My reply was "because they never squeezed a confession out of the "Juice"! Although everyone around his table laughed he didnt think it was very funny

Well, sorry but I don't quite understand why you don't agree...
I'm not saying that the Frank Sinatra card is only worth 1,20 £, just simply saying that a complete set valued at 12 £ & selling price at 40 £is quite outrageous.
The value of 12 £ issued by the London Cigarette Card Company in their 2023 catalogue is for the set with the Frank Sinatra card too.
But if you'd be okay for paying over 3 x the price on a 10 card set... Not me.

Menendez brothers are in the audience behind Mark Jackson, thus the infamy.
There are a lot of players who have gotten rings that aren't famous, but their prices aren't inflated. The seller is probably still wondering why no one has bought that no name guy yet.

Sellers can ask any price they want no matter how fool it is, it is just far from certainty someone will be willing to pay their asking price. I also noticed that phenomena with food issue / promo cards. A good example are the Tim Horton's and McDonald's cards. Often, it is when people who are not regular in our field try to sell cards (and expect they know well how it really works). They think that they found gold, but the base superstar they have in their hands is often overprinted to the point of having a common card value.

I've run into more than one regional/food sets that people think are valuable simply because you want to add it your pc and not because it's actually valuable. Had a guy tell me a 20 card set was 50 bucks (marked at 15) because I asked about it..smdh

Some sellers are bad at selling cards in the same way some football players are bad at playing football. This seller is also on the practice squad.
