As a seller, I just received a blurb from Ebay that it will be using Adyen as their main payment partner and not Paypal, thought i says Paypal will still be an option. If anyone else got this and can simplify it for me, I would appreciate it. Thanks

Wasn't PayPal started by eBay?

I just checked the emails I got from eBay over the last two weeks and I didn't get anything regarding Adyen but I did find reports about the announcement and appreantly PayPal's stock took a hit today becauese of the change. The current eBay-PayPal deal continues through 2020, after which they will no longer process payments for eBay.

No, Paypal started independently. eBay started their own e-payment service shortly afterwards, but it couldn't compete with Paypal so eBay bought Paypal outright. Later on, eBay was under investor pressure to focus the business, so they spun Paypal back off and reinvested the cash into their own operation. I don't remember hearing about any government intervention, and Wikipedia's account agrees with my memory.

Adyen is not a payment option, they are a back-end payment processor (process debit and credit card payments). PayPal currently does the back-end processing in addition to being the primary payment option. The new model will give buyers more payment options at checkout, like debit, credit card, and PayPal.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
