My school trip as a teenager to NYC confused the heck out of me as my 1st trip up north. The waitress asked if I wanted a pop and I just looked at the teacher/chaparone with a bewildered look. "What did I do?" Why should I get popped? Down here that meant a swat on the rear back then! Hahaha. After that one, my other trips up north were easy to figure out the lingo. At least for me, not so much for the people I encountered. We speak fast down here and the words sometimes blend into each other. Everything is really pronounced up there. Never really understood that as the Northeast has the highest concentration of people in the country. You'd think they could speed up conversations when they have more important stuff to do. Passing someone on the street here goes like this:
#1 - "Wha'sup?"
#2 - "Doin' good. Ow bow choo?"
#1 - "Good. Catcha lata."
How many more "words" need to be added there for a convo up north? Too many!
