You have to draw the line somewhere. Sure pocket schedules can fit into a regular card box. But SI covers can fit into a larger box. Same with game day programs. Strat-o-Matic cards (they are called cards afterall)? I know there are publications on here already but they are usually only card catalogs/magazines. Then we have AS ballots that were handed out at the ballpark. How far do you want to stray from the "TC" in the Trading Card Data Base?

....and Wheaties cereal boxes, matchbooks, menus, placemats, business cards, tickets, paper cups, etc, etc.
Just because something/anything made of a paper product has a sports figure, heck any figure (non-sports), pictured on it doesn't make it a trading card. We should stick to one thing and one thing only. And strive to be the best at that one thing; THE TRADING CARD DATABASE. I think the name says it all. Otherwise we will become a mediocre SPORTS/NON-SPORTS PAPER MEMORABILIA & EPHEMERA DATABASE.
Let someone else create a database for all the other paper ephemera.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Right. If Tom Brady is on the cover of GQ, we don't have it on here. Just publications related to Trading Cards. Unless something has changed since I last looked. I wasn't crazy about that idea either, when it first happened, but at least it is relevant to this hobby, and back in the day, most people who bought cards also bought Becketts, and many of us kept them.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Hey...not trying to start a "barn fire" here. However.....
I really don't care either how TCDB handles schedules, but it prompted me to research the site and there are plenty of schedules listed under Misc Sports.
Is there any control over what is added or not? The common grounds seem to be:
#1- They must be cards, single semi-stiff stock; no folded schedules?
#2- They must have an individual player highlighted on the front?
#3- They cannot be a Pro Sport?
So, who is responsible for patroling the "schedule additions"?
If I have schedule cards for Seton Hall University Men's Basketball? Women's Basketball? Are they legit adds?
What about an Oakland A's schedule card featuring Jose Canseco?
Or a single NFL Schedule card for 1999-2000 Season?
I'm not trying to be a PIA, but maybe 1 of our members could post some guidelines.
Thanks, ~BOB~

At this point I think the Admin need to make a clear and decisive decision so we can move on from this. It's been brought up 3 times now at least and we are really just spinning wheels. Whatever is decided we can move on from there. Until then it just seems pointless to keep arguing about it. I think enough viewpoints have been brought up on here for a decision, so I'll just wait to see what is decided.

There is/was a website that tried to catalog every type of collectible known to man. They had cards, coins, currency, stamps, probably ephemera, maybe painted thimbles. I remember one of their admins coming into our forums once a couple years ago, asking if our members could start adding checklists to their site for them. I have no idea what the site was, but I looked at it, and it was a complete joke because it covered way too broad a range of collectibles. And their forum was entirely members accusing other members of stealing from each other. We don't want to be that site.

I personally have no interest in schedules unless it was a CARD, released by a licensed card manufacturer, and it is in card-format. I don't care if those schedules are listed or not, but I do care if they are specifically labeled as schedules!

Do you want us to report offending schedules?

But if anyone would like a pocket schedule from a specific team, feel free to ask.....just don't try to create a checklist!
