Today marks the ten-year anniversary of my joining this site! Ten years ago today, I decided to finally search for information about the five baseball coins I had rattling around in a box for my whole life. And I stumbled into this wonderful site, which of course identified them as 1971 Topps Baseball Coins. And the rest is history. Things that happened, some quite surprising to me:
Though I had a good spreadsheet of my collection, I put the collection on here, so it was always at arm's length if I was at a flea market or something.
I started posting pretty regularly, learning all sorts of things about the hobby and hopefully sharing a bit of my knowledge.
I sometimes got free cards!
I got at least two cards made of...me!
I actually started trading with people sometimes. In fact, trades and purchases through this site led me to complete the 1971 Topps coin set, among many others.
I sort of contributed to the site, uploading scans and even some checklists, and poorly curating the V3 Forum Hall of Fame (I need to check on that again...)
I met -- still all on-line -- all sorts of nice, funny, fun, quirky, annoying, diligent, anal-retentive, hard-working, knowledgeable, and kind people.
Because of my early desire to stay on the top 50 collections list, I expanded my collection vastly, adding Gypsy Queen and non-Topps cards to my collection. Then because my enthusiasm for the hobby was stoked, I built displays, started collecting different stuff, and generally just had a great deal of fun with the hobby. Which is what it's all about, right?
So thank you, TCDB and all you members out there who've enhanced my hobby so much. See you in another ten years.
