So first question, how does one make sure a set is listed for the correct team if it has an identical name? Here is my problem the San Diego Gulls are in the DB twice and which team is which? And then to add to this is question two ............ the San Diego Gulls have five different (yup five) teams assoiated with the name. First was 66-74 WHL, next is 90-95 IHL, next 95-06 WCHL / ECHL, next 08-15 Junior B / A WSHL and finally 15-16 AHL. So how do we proceed with something like this??

I have the unpopular opinion of putting them all together. Nobody is gonna agree with me.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

My first thought is this...how are the Winnipeg Jets handled, and as your probably the preeminent hockey organizer on the site (not saying that mildly as I believe you are) I actually ask about this team specifically. You have the WHA Jets, that became the NHL Jets, that after a hiauts returned from Atlanta as the new Jets. If all those Jets link to the same team ID then, over different leagues and time frames, then these Gulls should all ID as the same team. Tricky I know, but ease of use should be the first issue I believe.

I just checked the Washington Senators. Both incarnations that became the Twins and Rangers respectively link to the same team ID as an example.

My local Danville Dashers are in the FHL. Same name as the earlier Danville Dashers who won 2 Walmar Cups (Almost Walmart Cup but not quite) in a different league, with a gap in between. They are treated as the same team at the arena. Those 2 old banners fly even though the current team is technically the same in name only. In my mind, a team is about the fans, the city, the name, and the legacy, not the ownership, the league affiliation, and the franchise paperwork. Again, I don't expect anyone to agree, and that's fine with me.

Well then, that might be a reason to split them under different TID with identifiers. Like years or how about leagues, instead of minor or etc :)
See your starting something

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

It drives me nuts when teams do this. The Charlotte Hornets of the NBA are two distinctly different teams even though they pretend to be one in the same. It throws the team listings off on here. (The first Charlotte Hornets are now the New Orleans Pelicans, the second Hornets used to be the Bobcats). And I'm hearing that we could have an expansion Seattle Supersonics to replace the franchise that moved to Oklahoma City in 2008.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. I agree with putting them together. Except in cases where there were two teams with the same name in different cities. Although this would probably only come up in minor league baseball i.e. Burlington Bees.
