Part of the lot I bought. This group of cards is also stamped Sample on the back. Anyone know anything about these sample cards?

I did a little googling, and it looks like Panini sends samples out to places like Dave & Adam's ahead of release, which they in turn use to promote the product in advance.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to log the sample cards I have? This lot I bought on ebay had about 1000 Eddie Lacy cards. High duplication but premium brands. Also many brands had sample stamped on them. Do I log thedm as the regular cards and put sample in the notes? If anyone is an Eddie Lacy fan I'll have a ton to trade!

Are they all done in the same embossing type?
It almost makes me think there was some aftermarket stamping going on.

Not sure that can be the case, Dan. Everything in National Treasures, including the base set, is numbered to 99 or less. So I don't think there could be any unnumbered cards for anyone to tamper with after market. Unless this Lacy has a number and I overlooked it.

True Sample and Promo cards would get a separate set listing. But the problem is confirming which cards were sent out as Samples. I didn't find a checklist of any Sample/Promo cards on Panini's website. In the interim your suggestion of adding the base card to your Collection with a Comment would be a good solution.
I also have another problem with Sample cards like this The base cards are SN99. But if numerous Samples were also printed then the SN99 is not actually true.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Point I was making, and I fully admit it wasn't abundantly clear in my first post, are all the cards stamped the same way? And are they different companies? If both Upper Deck and Panini products have the same Sample stamp, then it's aftermarket.

Fair point, Dan. I follow your logic now. And Lacy has played long enough that he is on Topps cards.
I agree with Chuck about the whole dumping of cards outside the numbering system being shady. On par with those hockey vault cards. The whole "Let's make a really limited set, but let's print as many of them as we can" mindset is a real turnoff.

Sorry guys. I was busy and not able to provide any more data. I'm still going through them. I believe they are all Panini products. I have 25-50 sample cards of each of them. The whole lot is Eddie Lacy. The ebay seller claimed Eddie Lacy gave him the lot. True or not I didn't care because I got a lot of nice premium brands of Eddie Lacy for what I thought was a cheap price. Note that of the 1000 cards in the lot about half were stamped/embossed as sample. The sample peoducts seem to be the higher end product. The prizm and select type brands look just like a regular base. It seems that for the most part I have 24 or 49 of each type. I assume the seller may have kept one of each and sold the rest. If anyone needs any more information to help me figure these out just ask. Thanks for the input.
