I recently got the Willie Tasby card on left and noticed the cropping of the photo is different than the card listed on TCDB.  For example, the bill of the cap on the left card doesn't touch the border like it does on the right card.  Is this a variation?

Yeah, there are several differences:

• The photo also is cropped closer as you also see the bat is shorter within the picture;
• The "y" in his last name doesn't extend into the first line of text on the bio;
• There's blank space between the top blue line and the stats heading

Where'd you get this?

The "d" in record is not lined up the same with the stat box also.

Back to your OP, the much beloved Dean's Cards has several of these same "variations" - with a note about some scarcity based on which cereal they were included with, but I don't know why that'd change the card layout, so I believe it's referencing another variation.
