Well, no one gave a shout out for the passing of Bart Starr, but I will give one for the passing of Bill Buckner, a great Cub of my youth. He won a batting title with the lowest average in years, at .324. He hit .300 every other year from 1972 to 1980, finally, breaking the streak by regularly hitting .300. He had over 2700 hits. He hustled through bad knees and had a great mustache. And he made one error that did NOT cost the Red Sox the 1986 World Series.
Thanks for the memories, Mr. Buckner.
Rest in Peace.
