I have been contiplating a purchase of mobile tablet or computer, I presently have an iMac 27" for home use but have had a windows computer before. Just trying to decide on what to get for those times I travel or just hanging out.
Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Well I am a strong believer in having a solid platform on all sources. I did not like the windows phone or tablet so in our house we have switched everything over to apple ........... except the desktop. This old girl is on it last legs with software glitches all over the place. After our deep freezers are paid off it is my next purchase ........... iMac 27". So I would say keep to the same brand throughout as it makes for seamless integration. That is a construction guys take ..... same with my tools ..... stay with one color, Makita for 18V and Milwalkee for my 12V.

After having worked in some capacity in technology fields for almost 25 years, never being without a computer for more than that, and assisting several people along the way in selecting their newest "gadget", I can firmly say this:
It all depends.
There are so many variables as far as when you want to do with the machine, as far as which machine would be best. Always go into it thinking about what you want to do, how it would be for you to use today, and then go with something a little more powerful so it lasts you longer (if you can get 5-6 solid years out of desktop or 3-4 out of a laptop, you're doing well).

[Disclaimer: My phone, tablet, laptop = Apple, desktop and server = Windows]
The MS Surface is a full Windows computer.priced for business. Unless you have disposable income burning a hole in your pocket I'd look at another brand of Windows tablet (Asus or Dell maybe?) Just avoid Arm and whatever other non x86 processors are out there unless you enjoy limited software compatability. They made a version of WIndows called RT that ran on those weird processors until they scrapped it,as Microsoft is prone to do. And if you do go Windows I'd go with at least a 256GB hard drive.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
