@jimetal7212 - At least these can be had pretty cheap. If you opened packs back in the day, you already have almost 2/3 of the master set (the INC/INC. versions). All that's left is the hobby factory set (and now there will be a run on them on ebay!).
@OCHawkeye - Looks like this is actually following the precedent set by the 1987 Donruss Factory set variations, as not all cards were different there, and not a full parallel. It also allows both basic and master set collectors to easily track their collections and percentage to whichever goal they have. I can see how this may be used for certain sets moving forward. As with anything that could be handled multiple ways, present all facts to Admin, and seek guidance.

I'm reverse on this one. The HC set I had back in the day went away when I sold off my initial collection. Got a FS when I got back into the game. Now I'll have to get a HC one. Yeah, as you said, not overly expensive. Oh, and a HC set for 87D too

I think I'm ready to tackle these sets. All singles have been boxed and ready to sort.
1. I'm looking for the INC variations.
2. I'm looking for border variations, BUT I don't know what they are? Yellow stripes??? or something.
3. I have a HFS, sealed, looks like pic #1. [labeled a in cl.]
So in summary I have 1 set with the HFS, and have to make 2 more from pack cards or retail set cards. [these will be labeled b and c respectively in cl.
Hope I have this right.

No, you don't have it right.
The HFS will be the c versions.
The retail versions will be a and b.The a will be the INC version. The b will be the INC. version.
That is EXACTLY what I wrote previously, right?

i think the current Panini numbering system and atrocity of insert sets is a "planned" version of all the 80's and 90's printing / publishing mistakes ugggghhhh

YES, my man Dan, I was told a while back to ask questions and that is what I'm doing. When you write it makes sense to you but maybe not me....too convuluted. I want to make sure.
c= HFS
a= INC version [pack/retail]
b= INC. version [pack/retail]
And what about these border variations.....What are the yellow stripes thing?

Bob,
The difference in all but 14 of the cards from the FS set and the hand-collated sets are all in the borders. Nothing to do with yellow stripes. If you have two of the same #'ed cards in hand, if they are from the different sets, it will be evident as the left and right borders will be different in the positioning and the colours of the accents in the blue or green border.

#760a checklist entry shows yellow stripe variation, perhaps that was the root of the question?
