I have really liked Heritage. One thing I thought about is what if they tried making a design that was in say a 1950's style but wasn't an exact match of any year? I wonder if that would be more appealing because it was something new or if it would be a big turnoff of the Heritage fans?

I think it would turn off Heritage collectors. Upper Deck Vintage was done for a few years to compete with Heritage, and they did what you described - used vintage Topps-like designs. I remember a lot of people thought they were poor rip-offs.
Incidentally, I would never have thought when it came out in 2001 that Topps Heritage would be around long enough to probably issue the 1974 design in a few years. I've been working on my birthyear set for a very long time, so now I have more motivation to finish it before starting 2023 Topps Heritage!

I wonder if they will quit with the SPs in 2023. 1974 was the first year that cards were issued in 1 series, so there was no high number issue. So Topps will stop with the SP stupidity... right?

Good luck L8s.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Topps will always find a way to include SP's. How else would they get people to break cases and cases of product? They will do something similiar to the San Diego/Washington variations, and there were a few ERR's and UER's that they'll no doubt run with.
Fun fact: According to baseballpedia.com, 1974 was the first year Topps packs were priced such that the price per card was more than a penny. Oh, how prices have changed since then!

With who added it, you'd think they would have enough points (and sense). Guess they got bored adding Magic backs.
