In looking through the FAQ, it says that a player should not be linked on a card if they are not a focal point of the card.  I would think that the "puzzle" images on the back of the All-Star cards might be considered a focal point.  I know I was curious who was pictured when I got a couple of All-Star cards.

While Carl Yastrzemski (#369) is easy because it is his face is on the back of his All-Star card, Orland Cepeda is clearly pictured on the back of Tim McCarver's card (#376).

While other cards may show a bat, or uniform, in this case it is Cepeda's face.

Am I overthinking/misunderstanding how linked cards are used, or is this a card that has not been correctly linked to another player?

I say you're overthinking.  That rule applies to team cards or other "group of people" cards where no player is named.  Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.  Your card is a Tim McCarver card. 

I asked the same question awhile ago.  I was told the back puzzles pieces aren't the focal point so they can't be tagged to the person on the back.  They did however, say I should write to the admin about the situation and state my case why the person should be tagged.  I am still waiting for a response.

I certainly agree it is a McCarver card, not claiming otherwise.  Just wondering if Cepeda should be linked to the card.  If someone was collecting Cepeda cards, they may want that card in their collection.

If a player is named on the back and a focal point of the card (for example, an insert card with different players named on both sides, or the late-80s Topps/OPC stickers with player cards on the back), then they can be linked. If it's a Pirates Team Leaders card and Tony Gwynn is sliding into 2nd, he's not the focal point of the card and can't be linked. It's a Tim McCarver card that has a puzzle piece on the back

I had brought thi exact scenario (different card, but still was stufff on the back about a different person, and Admin stated no linking of the player on the back - just like everyone else has already stated. (The only difference, this info came directly from Admin.)

Personally, I think it should be linked to McCarver AND Cepeda. But this is not my site and I have to follow the rules here. I have many cards in my PC that are not primarily that person on the card, but they still go in my personal collection. This one is a bit different as there is a puzzle on the back. One similar example of a non-PC card would be the 1981 Fleer NBA stickers. The stickers are on a card-backing that features a puzzle of the Championship Celtics team. None of those team stickers are also linked to the Celtics, unless the backs have their own listing on here now. Most of my PC examples would be football, but I have an MLB reference. It was a Trevor Rosenthal card in 2012 Topps. The card was a picture of Trevor and catcher Yadier Molina celebrating after winning the World Series in 2011. It is specifically a Trevor Rosenthal card, but in my mind, it goes in my Yadier Molina collection. All versions of it go in my Yadier collection before they would go in my STL Collection. I do not like that we can't link multiple people to a card unless they are specifically listed on the card! I also don't like that some cards get listed by the TEAM listed on the card instead of the uniform pictured on the card. I don't want a bunch of Carolina Panthers cards that actually show them in some other team's uniform (unless it's 1995 cards). I also don't want STL Cardinals cards of a player in somebody else's uniform. I don't care if they got traded or signed or so on by the "new" team. The only time I don't care about the uniform matching the team is when a college uniform is pictured but the card clearly says the person was drafted/signed by the pro team.
