I submitted a couple of inaccuracy reports before I realized that all music trump card sets were categorized as Gaming rather than Non-Sports/Music. I'm assuming there must have been some forum deliberation about this before, I'm curious where I can find that.
It's not really that big of a problem if all of the cards are linked to PIDs for the acts. But anyone searching through the Non-Sports category of sets for music sets to find a particular card or musician is going to miss all these trump sets. If the music card they're looking for isn't linked yet or if the PID isn't even created yet, then that becomes a big problem.
At some point there must have been a decision that regular playing cards shouldn't be categorized as Gaming. I'm wondering what the difference is between playing card decks and these trump sets.

But they are sets that are meant to be played as a game, therefore they are Gaming sets.
There was some discussion around where playing card decks should go, and it was determined that playing card decks are not games in and of themselves so they will be in whatever category they fall under (Baseball, Football, Misc Sports, Multi-Sport, Non-Sport, etc.).

Now that I think more about it, yes, I can see the logic of distinguishing playing cards from Gaming. Playing cards themselves do not comprise any one game. They can be used to play a variety of games. Still, being used to play games kinda sorta still seems like Gaming, if trump cards are all Gaming. But not categorizing playing cards as Gaming ultimately makes sense to me, too.
Trump cards aren't all Gaming here, though. Somebody must have forgot to inform those who've inputted Top Trumps sets in Soccer, Basketball, Wrestling, and Misc Sports. There's a lot of them. Here's soccer, for example:
https://www.tcdb.com/Search.cfm?SearchCategory=Soccer&cx=partner-pub-2387250451295121%3Ahes0ib-44xp&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=top+trumps
And that's just one brand of trump cards.
Looks like there may be a trilemma. Either the sports Top Trumps sets could all get recategorized as Gaming, or the music Top Trumps sets could all get recategorized as Music, or...is it possible for a set to exist in more than one category?

I believe this was discussed and Admin stated Sports takes precedence over Gaming. I don't think Admin has added a hierarchy to the FAQ about Gaming vs Sports.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I see. That's what I feared. I don't know about movies, comics, TV, etc. But I personally don't think music should be a second-class category anymore. I'll message Admin to ask if he'll reconsider.
p.s. It's pretty funny that this issue involves which categories trump other categories, lol.

I don't believe Admin will want to break out every non-sport subject into its own category. Since in comparison to sports there are so few sets released. It wasn't that long ago that he broke out Gaming into it's own category. Just because so many sets are produced on a yearly basis.

Also, if you are using the Check Names for a music set in the gaming category, and click Match With Other Categories, it will automatically match all the cards to their PID, provided one exists.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

The fact that there are only a handful of music trump sets strikes me as a reason why it'd be okay to break them out. These sets have an outsized importance to music card collectors, due to the dearth of music sets the last 20+ years. For example, this 2003 set has Beyonce's highly-sought first/rookie. Which is linked to her PID, yes, so anyone consulting her page will see it, and yes, the same will apply to every card linked to a PID, and eventually the goal is to link every card to a PID. But there are always still going to be people interested in music cards who will be looking for music sets year-by-year in the Non-Sports category, and those people won't know these trump sets even exist.

I'm just asking to make sure I'm clear- are you proposing moving the music Trumps cards back to non-sports with all the other music cards OR are you proposing that music in general has its own category seperate of non-sports?
If you are proposing the first, I can understand that, and whatever everyone else thinks (most importantly ADMIN), then I'll be okay with it. If its the second, I am strongly against that. Seperating music into its own category would only open the door for a seperate category for movies and TV shows, and whatever else. It would also open the door allowing every MISC Sports to branch into their own categories. Most collectors know music generally falls into the non-sports category, that's where I believe it should stay.
Again just asking mainly for clarification.

Definitely the first. Non-Sports.
The idea of a category just for music itself appealed to me when I first began the music pages campaign, but after seeing how blended some of the sets are, I also realized how impractical that would be. And as Admin reminded me at the time, music has its own subcategory, anyway, which is plenty sufficient.
