Cool cards Billy. My opinion has changed on relic cards. Two years ago I didn't like them. Now i think they're great. I added several in 2018 too, but not this many.
I like them when I can add them to my collection, I don't like how all the real sets have been dropped to make room for $400 for 5 card autographed patch card sets. As a general rule I like them more than I like autographs, to be honest. I just purchased my first puck relic on COMC last night, it will appear in the 2019 thread.
I like relics so long as they are game used. Player used are tolerable only if they are from a rookie photoshoot or something of that nature. I want to know where the material came from! I don't understand how people can get excited to drop $200 on a box of cards and get a player used jersey; it's literally meaningless.
Honestly, I don't mind. I like the concept...I am slightly dubious of it all actuality. For instance, I once got a piece of red material from Shaquille O'Neal, before he joined the Heat. Here it is on the Database but I suspect that may just be the wrong jersey piece for the card. What I dislike is when they don't tell you what kind of material it is. Panini is the worst with that but Topps and UD do it as well. In Absolute Basketball in 2015-16 they advertised having sock relics (a first for the NBA) but since they don't tell you what kind of material you are getting, there's really no way to tell between sock, white jersey, warm-um, etc. At least in NASCAR it's easy to ID tires and sheet metal!
Bench Warmer has some interesting relics, Billy!
Yeah, unfortunately I don't have access to them. Maybe they will expand into sports and have genuinely licked Brad Marchand cards! |
