2019 Major League Debuts

by DarkSide830 - 93 cards (Last updated on May. 25, 2019)

1. 2018 Bowman Draft #BD-122 Josh Naylor

5/24: 0-4

The Padres promoted Naylor to debut against his hometown team, Toronto, on May 24th.

2. 2017 Grandstand Mississippi Braves #19 Dylan Moore

3/20 SEA: BB

After signing a low MLB offer in the offseason, Moore beat out Kristopher Negrón for a bench spot on Seattle's roster, and debuted off the bench in the opening series in Japan.

3. 2019 Topps Opening Day #55 Yusei Kikuchi

3/21 SEA: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 K

Kikuchi became the first Japanese pitcher to make his MLB debut in Japan, and to made the earliest debut (in terms of US time-zones) for a starting pitcher.

4. 2018 Topps Pro Debut #126 Braden Bishop

3/21 SEA: 0-1

Bishop was the third Mariner to debut on March 21st in Seattle, replacing franchise icon Ichiro Suzuki in center in the 8th inning.

5. 2017 Grandstand Birmingham Barons #NNO Brandon Brennan

3/21 SEA: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 ER, 0 K

Brennan provided scoreless ball in his first eight appearances, three of which were of two innings in length.

6. 2018 Topps Heritage Minor League #100 Fernando Tatis Jr.

3/28 SD: 2-3

Service time trick be damned, the Padres selected Tatis's contract for their Opening Day roster and started him at short with brilliant results. The phenom outhit offseason pickup Manny Machado and helped hold up a shutout victory for San Diego over Madison Bumgarner.

7. 2018 Bowman - Chrome Prospects Mojo Refractor #BCP50 Eloy Jimenez

3/28 CWS: 0-3, HBP, RBI, R

The superprospect Jimenez was added to the White Sox roster to start the 2019 season after signing an extention. In his debut, he reached base on a HPB with the bases loaded to drive in a run, then later scored.

8. 2015 Bowman - Prospects #BP86 Frank Schwindel

3/28 KC: 0-4, 2 ROE

Schwindel made his long-awaited and well-deserved debut starting at first base on Opening Day for the Royals. Though he did not record a hit, he did reach base twice on errors and caused a run to score on the first.

9. 2018 Bowman - Prospect Autographs #PA-PA Peter Alonso

3/28 NYM: 1-4

Just as Fernando Tatis Jr. was a surprising OD roster addition that helped hold up a 2-0 shutout on OD, so was Alonso. His .325/.419/.725 slash line through 22 games made him a RoY frontrunner.

10. 2018 Grandstand Midland RockHounds #16 Richie Martin

3/28 BAL: 0-3

Batting a mere .087 through his first nine games, Martin's average jumped to .185 thanks to a 3-4 effort vs the team he was selected from first overall in the 2018 Rule V Draft - Oakland.

I really enjoyed last year's list, and look forward to watching this one grow too!

Mar. 29, 2019 - 12:14PM

I ended up trying to put the rookie cards of each player into last year's list, so it became a bit messy. Im probably goung to put it back up with new cards of guys like Pablo Lopez and Caleb Ferguson soon, but i have to clear out the clutter first.

I know it doesn't count for this list purpose, but after 15 years and over 1800 games played, Yadier Molina made his major league debut at the third base position yesterday.  That deserves an honorable mention in the comments :)

i would have to agree

Doing my list of the 1989 A’s, and including players who played that year who weren’t on the postseason roster reminded me of the 1990 Topps Debut set.

Granted Bowman has RCs covered, but it’d be nice to go back to that all encompassing style of set, as opposed to just notable player debuts sprinkled in the Updates & Highlight sets.

Just saw from this list that Lakins made his debut this week. First former Buckeye to do so this year. Looking forward to the day that Ronnie Dawson gets a callup from Houston.
