Louis Requena ... vintage master MLB shutterbugby theFalcon - 19 cards (Last updated on Jun 7, 2020) |
He was NY-based and I'm sure he was on Topps' speed dial ... I posted a few of the cards he must have done, along with his pics that were near duplicates (link included).
I also think many cards were produced from his photo sessions, even if a similar card photo is NOT in Getty. I put in examples of my guesswork, too.
1. 2016 Topps Archives - 1985 Topps #1 Draft Picks #85DP-JB Jeff Burroughs
Exact match:
|
2. 2012 Topps Archives - Deckle Edge #69DE-10 Orlando Cepeda
Color version:
|
3. 1971 Topps #14 Dave Concepcion
His bat is in a slightly different position on Getty:
|
4. 2004 Upper Deck Legends Timeless Teams #68 Mike Cuellar
Looks like a perfect duplicate at Getty:
|
5. 1970 O-Pee-Chee #360 Curt Flood
The same cap is in the same position on his head:
|
6. 1971 Topps #124 Don Gullett
His bare left arm is slightly visible in the Topps card, but not in Getty:
|
7. 1969 Topps #260 Reggie Jackson
Exact duplicate!!! I hope Mr. Requena made big money on this photo just like everyone else.
|
8. 2004 Upper Deck Legends Timeless Teams #58 Jerry Koosman
It looks better in color:
|
9. 1969 Topps #311 Sparky Lyle
It wouldn't surprise me if the Topps pic was taken at the same session as the Getty pic:
|
10. 1978 TCMA The 1960's I #0210 Denny McLain
Looks like a duplicate at Getty:

Good job. Requena published his own postcards and 8x10s that were sold to players to answer fan mail and for sale at Yankee Stadium and nearby souvenir stands. His stuff is normally associated with Pan American Photo, his company.
As for making a lot of money on the Reggie rookie card photo, that's highly doubtful. Most Topps photographers got a one time price for the images and were not entitled to long-term royalties.
Great concept for a list. Thanks! |
