A simple question: Why does it matter to you as a collector that certain sets were overproduced?

The only reason that it matters to me is simple economics. If it was overproduced it means it is likely easier to find and diminishes what I am willing to pay for it. It does not really change how desireable it is to me.

Its like fishing. I can catch sheephead (a non-game fish here in Minnesota) all day long, but 10 sheephead don't mean as much as 1 walleye. Both are fun to catch but the walleye means more because they are harder to find/catch (plus they taste good). Rarity makes the catch all that much sweeter.
But I'd still rather catch a couple sheephead than nothing at all.

Does not bother me one bit if the set is overproduced, if it is something that I like then I collect it regardless of production numbers. Normally I collect the OP stuff because it is at a price point I can afford. Upper Deck The Cup and UD Black and stuff like that is what bothers me more than OP stuff. I collect OPC for the simple reason that it is fairly easy to complete (other than the SPs of course) and the Inserts are as well. Plus being Canadian to me it is the logical set to collect.

I'd rather have cards overproduced. Take it to the other end of the scale, the ultimate underproduced, 1/1? A 1/1 means only one person in the world can possess that card. Overproduced means just about everyone that wants to can possess the card. And afford it. I believe the people that don't like overproduced are not true collectors, but investors. They don't think about the card as a favorite player or team but as a way to make money.
-------------------------------
Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I agree. I don't really care about the "overproduced" cards. To me it means as others have said that it is much easier to find them and also the price should be reasonable or very cheap.
With wat C2C said about underproduced and this short print trend. I am really upset about it. It means it is more difficult to finish sets because often they super short print the more popular players and the number one draft picks.

I dont care. Ive got sets/part sets that the cards look ugly to me, just because there more valuable cards or less produced dont matter. Its all about the look to me and eye appeal.

Overproduced doesn't matter, in fact it makes it more fun because it is an attainable goal. The only thing overproduced does for me is change what I am willing to pay.
