My Top 10 Favorite Bo Jackson Cards (1986-1989) (That I own)

by midbellman - 10 cards (Last updated on Dec 13, 2014)

10. 1986 Topps Traded - Limited Edition (Tiffany) #50T Bo Jackson

Where do I start with a Bo Jackson Top Ten card list. I guess I have to start with a rookie card. I like the Tiffany sets. The since the traded set already has a different look from the regular set it makes the Tiffany a little tricky to visually tell apart. Just like the 1975 Topps set, I like the 1986 Topps because of its simple design.

9. 1987 Sportflics Team Preview #13 Bo Jackson / Danny Tartabull / George Brett / Kevin Seitzer / Frank White / Charlie Leibrandt / Mark Gubicza / Bret Saberhagen / Willie Wilson / Dan Quisenberry / Hal McRae / Lonnie Smith

I know what you are thinking, out of all the cool Sportflics cards out there of Bo Jackson, this is your favorite. Understand that in the late 1980s & early 1990s I was in late elementary and early middle school and became a huge Royals fan. I can still recite who played what position. I still think Sportflics were some of the coolest cards produced.

7. 1989 Sports Illustrated for Kids #75 Bo Jackson

I actually got the "Sports Illustrated for Kids" magazine when I was in middle school and it was the highlight of my month when it arrive, because I was always excited to see what cards I got in it. Anything that makes me nostalgic I like.

6. 1988 Parker Bros. Starting Lineup Talking Baseball Kansas City Royals #24 Bo Jackson

This is another team set that I have. I am a sucker for cartoon looking cards, whether they are serious, like this one, or more silly, see #2.

5. 1987 Indiana Blue Sox (unlicensed) #46 Bo Jackson

Just like I am a sucker for cartoon style cards, I am also a sucker for the mid-to-late 80s Broder style cards, which Bo in included in many of them. I have many of these Broder style sets. The Indiana Blue Sox cards are my favorite.

4. 1986 Jennings Southern League All-Stars #13 Bo Jackson

Before there was Bo the "Royal", there was Bo the "Chick"? :-/ Really! Who thought the Chicks were a good name for a sports team. Anyway, a cool, simple pre-Royals card.

3. 1987 Classic #15 Bo Jackson

Being a 2-sport player, cross-over cards are cool. Bo Jackson does several of them, but this is a Classic, literally. The trivia on the back is pretty fun to.

2. 1988 Kansas City Royals Smokey #5 Bo Jackson

Remember when I said I like Cartoon cards, especially silly one? This is the perfect example. I also have this enitre set. They are just fun to look at. I dare you to go and look at this entire set and not smile.

1. 1987 Fleer Baseball's Best Sluggers vs. Pitchers - Box Bottom Panel Singles #M4 Bo Jackson

I have to admit that even though this is my favorite Bo Jackson card, this set wasn't on tradingcarddb an hour ago. I added this set, and then added the picture specifically for this top ten. Does that make me a bad person? :-) It was hard to track down one of these cards, because it's pretty rare. Again very simple, the attention is all about the player, not the graphics or the borders. Do you agree with my top ten? What are your favorite cards from this era, and it doesn't have to be limited to Bo Jackson. I invite you to check out my other lists. I am trying to decide which top ten lists to do next. I am between favorite George Brett cards of the early 80's or my favorite Kansas City Royals team sets. Leave a comment below on what you think I should do.

Great list! I was a huge Bo Jackson fan as a kid amd thought I had an impressive collection of his cards. Then the 90's hit and a huge explosion of subsets left me in the dust of thing to collect them all that I actually soured on collecting trading cards. College came and I like most others stopped collecting for 20+ years. I started again slowly a couple years ago and am back at it now. Can't wait for my young children to get involved. I still have a few Bo cards left, but now I'm focusing on Detroit Tigers, so they are up for sale or trade. These lists are a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for commenting. George Brett was my number one, but Bo was a very close second. Since they were both on the same team it made it easy to follow them. I recently gave my nine year old some of my old cards and he thought they were the coolest thing and of course his favorite player is George Brett too. He has no clue who he is, but since he's daddy's favorite, Brett is also his. He even dressed up as brett for Halloween this year. Thanks again for commenting.
