Wow, I can't believe how unrealistic the price are here. There is no point in having them. Adding shipping to a price is crazy. When someone asks you how much did you spend say at food shopping, did you factor in the price of the gas to get there and the time it took, after all time is money? I don't think you do. How many answered the question I payed 5 bucks plus S&H. Stating it is a separate thing, but then just adds it to the price here??? So with no realistic prices what is the point of having them. other than to rip off others aka the people that use the site to sell, or is it to over inflate your ego about what you have. A truly sad fail for the website. People complain about Beckett but they're winning this one hands down.

What is that behind you!?! Oh, It's me! Looking at the cards you have, That I want. :)

I seldom put any prices in here:
1. Because when I go to a show I normally buy a number of cards and can not remember all the prices.
2. Most of the prices here are off anyways, somebody paid $3 for a 1963 Pete Rose rookie?
3. Today I did put in the price that I won a Jerry Rice rookie for $21.80. Even though the card pictured looks to be NrMt it is the lowest price posted for that card. Did I just mess up the prices for this card, is what goes through my mind. I know the dealer, so if the card is not the one pictured he will just give me my money back.

Should everyone that received free cards from other members record the price of that card as $0.00?

Assigning a value to a card based on one person's online buying experience seems a little questionable to me altogether, shipping question aside. Lots of factors could cause a card to sell at a low price. Low seller rating might scare bidders off. No pictures. Scheduling the auction to end at 4 AM on a Wednesday. If I'm a terrible salesman, and only get $4 for a card that a good salesman would have sold for $35, that doesn't make the card a $4 card. It makes me a poor businessman.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I don't care about prices and don't enter them, and some of this has already been gone over, but:
Say there's a card out there that you would feel is 'worth' $5. There are 3 eBay auctions:
1) $4 with $2 shipping
2) $5 with free shipping
3) $5 with $2 shipping
Would you consider option 1 a better deal than option 2? Would you consider options 2 and 3 the same?

Assuming a one-card purchase where combined shipping isn't a factor, 2 is obviously the best deal. Of course, I'm the guy who factors gas and time into grocery shopping decisions too. The Fresh Thyme in Terre Haute has really good bratwurst, but it's 30 miles away, making them expensive brats.

Well, the outcry is evident. My past dealings with the TCDB has always been ADD more features, I like the glitz. BUT this pricing thing, after reading each post, the feature must go. Unless members are adding "price guide" values [whatever that is anymore], it really becomes a questionable feature.
If ADMIN can change pricing to a member's Personal Account as we do with our collections' counts [personal to us], that would be bettter. Then each member can input what they feel the card cost them and not affect any or every other member. Again, just thinking out of the box.

I fully support this suggestion. Members here (by far not all) have intentionally influenced the pricing for cards. Unfortunately, some not knowing members are using this pricing to match trade values. This is worse than Becketts pricing (though I hate trades that refer to Becketts just as much).
Keep the pricing feature but limited to a member's use to track what he paid for his cards (if he wishes to). Most members here probably don't care so much as they are collectors, not investors.

It must be a new year.
I agree with BOB.
And we probably also agree with "Go Eagles!" 2 for 2. What's next?
Price guides are inherently flawed. Remember the old days when the guide would be shipped to shops and mailed to your house? By time the magazine got in your hands, it was outdated. That hot, hot, hot 1st or 2nd year player, whose RCs shot up this past month, just tore an ACL and will miss the rest of the season, and will probably never be the same. Good luck getting that price listed now. Plus, as a buyer, good luck finding some of those local guys at "commons" prices (when really, that's all they are). Flaws everywhere. However, dealers all over forgot what the second word was - a GUIDE. They somehow missed that and though it was the "Price Dictator".
The internet has certainly flipped the hobby upside down in the last 20-25 years. In some cases, in a good way, in others, not so good.
As for the prices here - it's completely hit or miss. (And please don't start trying to enter in "book values", as the writers of the "book" don't like that and the site could get in trouble for that.) Even everyone's favorite method of determining value is flawed (ebay sold auctions). What if the card was listed as an auction, starting bid of 99 cents, and only 1 person who was interested in the card SAW the auction. It sells for 99 cents. 3 days later, same card, 15 collectors of that card see the auction and bid. Obviously, it will go for much more. And even then, Person A may have really wanted that card to complete a full set, team set, or a player collection, so they were willing to go 10% higher than Person B, who just likes the card or it's one of many wanted for a various set.
The whole idea of card valuation is completely flawed.
