How do you make your excel SS? Item by item data entry? I repeatly copy/paste my Collection pages into excel, then arrange, head columns for my purposes etc. Does anybody else use the copy/paste method? It seems relatively easy to do and update and color code and anything else you want in your SS. If you have ALOT of sets, it will cost you in paper and ink ! lol.
Comments please, seems with the new year, many members are looking to organize or reorganize, this post might be helpful.

My excel spreadsheets are more the Master copy. Too many trades don't get completed properly so sometimes cards you received in a trade don't show up in my collection on the database. Fortunately this seems to be less frequent than before as we have often reminded members here in the forum to follow the steps in a transaction.
My sets collection in my spreadsheets are just blocks of #s for the amount of cards in a set. As I get the cards,I delete the #. Each company has its own spreadsheet. For my players, I have two spreadsheets - one for all of their cards and another for those I have in my PC. When I get a new card of a player, I enter that I have it and copy and paste it to the have spreadsheet. They are allin chronological, alphabetical, and numerical order for easy reference.

I too maintain SS as my Master copy, though mine in a little more expansive (though I'm sure Billy can beat everyone on that). I have a file for each decade (70-79, 80-89, etc.), one for PCs and one for Minor League/Draft sets. Each file has a header tab that lists each set I'm wanting, working on or have completed by year and alphabetically by company/set. I'll even break down a bit by have a line for the master company (Topps) and then list an insert sets related to that one underneath. I then have columns that show how many I have vs base complete set. I've also added in columns to track ERR/VAR totals. That way I can track what a base complete set is and what a master set would be.
I then have a tab for each individual year in that file (1971, 1972, etc.). Using the information in the DB I copied and pasted it over so that it aligns with how things are viewed in here. So I can better use the filter function in Excel I have year, set (as it reads in here), card #, player name, notes (ERR/VAR info) and then track how many copies I have and how many are traders. Pain in the buttocks to set up, but I use it as my baseline. Like Bruno mentioned there are times when trades are not done completely in here so it helps. I also enter purchases (SportLots, eBay, COMC, etc.) into the "have column" so I can help deconflict trades here and ongoing purchases pending/done (i.e. I've had cards sitting in my SportLots cart then offered to me in a trade. After accepting the trade I can remove the cards from my cart). Once I receive a purchased card I change the code from the buyer to 1.
I don't print it out so that helps. For the vintage (70s and before) I have a condition column and can filter to my "don't haves" or upgrades wanted. That I do print and bring to a show as I track down those items. I don't use shows for newer items, just vintage so it's only a few pages to deal with.
It works for me, but not necessarily for everyone.

I set my excel master sheet up like this: (starts with column A and goes to the right from there).
Year of Card
Brand-Set (I use the same names as TCDB)
Card #
Player/Card Name
Card Type (base, insert, parallel, promo, etc)
Card Size (mini, standard, oversized, 5x7, etc)
Team Name
Serial Numbered (Y/N)
My Serial Number: Enter #
Serial Number (our of): Enter #
Autographed: Y/N
Rookie Card: Y/N
Memorabilia: Y/N
Memorabilia Type: (Jersey/Bat/Manufactured/etc)
Card Attribute Columns: have a few blank columns to fill in any notes may want to make in them
Quantity: Enter #
TCDB Pricing: if have time and see it will enter most are blank at current time
Beckett Low Pricing: again mostly blank at this time
Beckett High Pricing: also mostly blank
from those columns I find I can find and filter most information I want or run any type of reports I may want on other work sheets.
Like Bob I copy pasted names, card numbers and team name from my collection here and then entered remaining information manually one set at a time. Did it take a while and was it a pain - YES, but do like it now. I like shuffling the data on the sheet(s) so to speak and having a bit of a backup if God forbid something happen here. As new cards get added with trades/purchases/ etc I enter them manually. I will note I didn’t do this for every card - only the PC.
Bot sure this works for all but works for my needs!

I use mine as master copy as well. Mine is broken down by Maker/year (Topps 2018 for example) then I list each set as its own tab, and then columns are broken down as base/extras first 2, then others are broken into parallels (colors/golds/foils).Each row gets card #,name and team, and then if there is a SP/VAR, those will get separate rows for each. Then I have color coding for status. If anyone wants to see , drop me a pm and I can sent you an example.

Anyone know if we can export our collection here to spreadsheet or csv files? I would love to have as a backup. Zistle provided this and it was SUPER nice to have. When they were bought out by Beckett, the site just died but fortunately I was able to recover the CSV files and it provided an easy way to get started with data entry here.
Thought about requesting as a feature. Anyone else interested?

Everyone seems to be interested in this feature and it has been brought up numerous times. To date, though, no joy.....

Wow, you guys were going much more detailed than I planned. Maybe someday HA!. Just being able to copy/paste everyset that I have cards for would work miracles for my needs. That way I can assign locations and other pertinent notes about the set and it's cards.
And you are right about hardcopies, why print it out everytime, save paper and ink....file it on the computer, probably easier to update. Just some of the old fashion still in me. lol.

Not a complete as ntlwhlr
As my master excel list of my PC. I do not have a excel file for all the other cards I have even the extra Huskers. As I may be doing it diff then most here. Also how I use it id diff. So this may not be helpful to you.
Excel sheet 1
Columns
year, Brand, S/N, subset, Card #, Name of player, 1 if I have it blank if I do not, if it is a Auto, If it is a Men
The Brand and Subset is confusing at time and with some sets. It looked good for years.
I have 8 other sheets. Test, Names, schedules, odd ball, Printing plates, Huskers sets, Police sets, and Coke caps
Bottom of page of sheet one shows to of # of cards # of Auto # of Men. then under that I show the totals from the other sheets. There is a way to have these number undated when you undated other sheets but I have had troubles with that feature and just do it manually.
My binders are set up like that also with a few exceptions. I have not keep up with all the printing plates as I will only get them if they are real cheap. The coke caps are not cards so they are there just so I know I have they.
Now back to Bob's question. The test sheet is used when I do any sorting or playing around with my files. I have been burned several time when a sort that goes wrong. As far as cut and paste i have find that some places that you cut from causes problem. Be warn that when you cut form some other places they may have additions in the cut. When you add it to the colum it adds these additions also. (how the colum or row is set up). It is some times hard to fix or find. I have not done any for here so I do not know about it But Beckett does has problem with cut and paste. That is why I have a test sheet.
