Don't they come off the printing press in the same sequence every time? I used to know who to look for on the outside of the old cello packs to get a Mattingly or whoever inside.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I bought enough 2018 Topps hangers to know pretty much if certain players popped up then I'd see a slew of certain others, even in the few 2019 Topps it's the same thing. But I can't complain because that's been the case for years with Topps. If it hadn't been for their collation system I'd not have gotten two '86 Topps Jerry Rice RCs in three wax packs.

As long as the duplicates weren't in the same box, I don't think you have much of a beef. I've learned to enjioy duplicates myself. I find collation is far better today than back during my previous collecting period from 78-90.
But, to your point, I was disappointed that my 2019 Opening Day Hobby box didn't provide a full base set. After inserts and a parallel, there were 210 base cards for a 200 base set. I ended up with 172 of the base cards, for a total of 38 duplicates.

Kind of like the Wild Card World Leage Football set? I had packs of those with three of the same card in it!

I just bought 2 of the 15 pack Spring Mega boxes of Heritage at Walmart and was quite pleased to get zero dupes when I sorted them into 1.

Anomalies? This is literally what bad collation means. The cards are always packed in the same order, not random enough. So if you get a similar sequence you get 20 doubles out of two 50ct hangers instead of the 4 you might expect. It’s manufactured to look random but clearly isn’t. Its annoying and a legitimate gripe for a customer who decides to purchase more of your product. For what it’s worth, with modern smaller checklists you obviously have a much greater risk of this biting you. It’s always been an issue and as someone mentioned back in the day you’d use your knowledge of those sequences to your advantage like a card counting pack searcher lol

Nothing will ever match 1990-91 Skybox basketball. I remember opening a pack containing the same card 15 times.
