It's done! A set I never thought I'd try to complete, and not even actually cards, so they belong on another site, one that's linked to this site and has all sorts of collectibles on it, not only cards and things that came with car...Ok, I'll stop. And start over.
It's done! I've told this story before, I think, but I'm pretty sure that the four 1971 Topps baseball coins inserts that I had are what brought me to TCDB. I had these four coins -- Jenkins, Santo, Billy Williams, and Joe Morgan -- for as long as I remember. I never knew what they were -- I was six in 1971. I always liked them -- heck, three were Cubs' greats. Didn't know what to do with them. Just left them rattling around in boxes for years (yet, their condition isn't too bad). And, since I had a surge in my collecting interest, and the internet had come into being, I did a search. And I was brought here in 2014 and found out what the coins were! And I discovered an awesome website! Then I did nothing new, other than to start cataloguing my collection here and plaguing the forum.
Then, in about 2017, another coin came in a lot of cards I bought. Randy Hundley. Ok, I had five. And finally, circa late 2017/early 2018, I decided to go for the set. It's only 153 coins, and none are terribly expensive, and eBay exists. So this wasn't a huge endeavor. But it was an endeavor, nonetheless. Thus, with the arrival of Tommy John and Thurman Munson today, I am done! Only two of the original four are in my binder. Two others got replaced by better coins that showed up in lots I bought. But I solved the dilemma of what to do with the sentimental other two when my backup daughter said she wanted them. They remain on display on her nightstand. My complete set of 153 are all in nice coin holders in plastic sheets in a binder with a blown up Willie Mays coin on the front of it. And I must say, they look awesome.
As always, I must thank my wife and daughter, who contributed to this set by buying me Christmas and birthday gifts. And a nod to this site for finally telling me what the coins were. And a bonus! I repaid the site for the information it gave me about the coins by scanning 108 of the backs that were not here -- arguably my biggest contribution to the site! (Who uploaded 108 fronts, without doing the backs? Whatever...) And, as far as I can tell with a quick review, I'm one of only three people on this site with the complete set. And I know my collection pales to very many here, but I must admit that I find that kinda cool.
Anyway, I babble on. That's at least one 2019 goal complete at the one-quarter mark.
Have fun collecting, everybody!
