Thanks for all the response. I'm in agreement with Bobcardz. Store the Manufacturer. It would make searching for a set a lot easier. Also, to list them as their own set.

I ALMOST totally agree with you Bruno. I think the manufacturer name should come second in most products that were only available at one retailer in the oddball OR food issue listings. BUT, McDonald's is an outlier to this, IMO. Many of the set's I've seen that came from McDonald's didn't have any kind of McD's logo on the front. Their info was usually only on the back of the card. But brands like Ames, Drake's, K-Mart, Post, Woolworths, Denny's, etc. usually had their logo on the front (with or without the manufacturer's logo). The manufacturers usually put their logo on the front anyway, but the other logo is the quick separator in a search anywhere on the internet.

Some like Woolworth's dont mention the store anywhere on the card. At least the 1985 doesn't. Seriously though, I dont care how they're titled. If I search for Woolworth's, the search results will bring up every Woolworth's set, whether or not it's the first word. I don't see why it matters at all.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

The reason I would like to see it changed is that my Player Collection is ordered by Yr, Co, #. Ames is first in order yet when I look at my list of haves on this site, it puts them after the Topps set. In other words, my physical collection is not in the same order as this site's list. This also goes for the argument of Fleer Ultra or just Ultra, etc.
Other than on this site, all store / food issued sets are listed in guides by the store / food name. I know we don't have to follow what everyone else does but collectors who have never used this site before will most likely refer to an Ames set than a Topps printed for Ames set.
And yes Dave, the 1985 Woolworth's is an anomoly - I have no idea what they were thinking when they did that.

I think the primary purpose of this site is for the complete, accurate, and informative documentation of trading cards. Not for the personal taste or convenience of it's members. For every member that wants it one way, there's another that wants it the opposite way.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Chuck, I agree with you 100%. But this issue is more than just one person (me). I would be curioous to hear from the membership how many catalogued or sorted their collections my way prior to coming on this site. I know some have bent to be in stride with the site; for me it doesn't make sense when organizing my collections.
As well, right now there is absolutely no standardization in how these are listed - I just came across another one this morning (that is done how I like it). So, for anyone saying that it would be a massive overhaul to change everything, guess what, it already is if we wish to standardize things. But before we do, I think this issue needs to be revisited even though I know that a decision was made within the last couple of years to include the manufacturer first then the actual company that issued the cards. Personally never did like that decision back then.

Personally I just wish the site labled Ultra as Fleer Ultra, and Stadium Club as Topps Stadium Club. Beyond the major releases, I just put the rest in order after.
I did reorganize my collection a couple times since joining the site, so I was ok with adjusting on most of the sets.

I'd like for there to be consistency overall. Those Woolworth's cards always give me trouble finding as the box they came in, as David alluded to, doesn't have Woolworth written on it.
In reference to Bru's question, I'm a collector that has only used TCDB to organize. I have nothing else to compare it to other than for online purchases. COMC, Sportlots, and others aren't consistent with each other. I ran into that when I was attempting to collect the '69 Topps Deckle Edge series.
For organizational purposes, which includes trading, I keep the sets in the order that TCDB shows them to ease finding the cards expeditiously. Yes on larger trades it often interrupts the flow of pulling cards when I'm looking for the Ultra or Stadium Club.
Which brings me to the question, and I ask it to be informed as sometimes I don't see the logic that was used as mine gets in the way: Why not make a decision to change set names around to be consistent throughout, whether as Fleer Ultra or Ultra, etc.? Why leave it as is?

Close to your way.....I sort by Sport, then manufacturer, and then year. Topps K-mart, Topps Drakes, etc. are in a box called "Topps Misc." I've been doing it that way since before I had a computer and will do it that way until I'm done with the hobby. Having K-mart first makes little sense to me. Stadium club...also sorted with Topps. Ultra.....sorted with Fleer. I've been around awhile....I know where they go.
I know that my way is the best (for me). It works perfectly. I also know that K-mart only or K-mart first probably works for some people (you're all wierd).
My point is that both ways are correct (or at least neither way is completely wrong). For standardization purposes a decision needed to be made and, in this case, Admin made it. It is listed in the FAQs.
It's not perfect, but its not wrong.
Personally I like the decision. It matches the way I had been sorting my cards since before this site existed.
